Abrams: How many time do I have to tell you?! It's "Not of the body" not "I want your body".
Paramount Exec: You know, I'm beginning to think "How Landru Got His Groove Back" wasn't such a good idea for a movie.

The only thing unchanged will be the hackneyed old plot device. They have to reboot cause they threw out all the old boots. Everything after TOS should be changed. I think TNG was a reboot, and please no gold pips. In the beginning I think they were diamonds which just reminds the audience they're smoking their cigars with lit twenties.

Then you're looking for an argument. Submitting to whose logic?

Logic has no master. Logic is logic.

The conclusions reached by a logical chain of inference depend wholy upon the premises accepted by the individual. Anything can be justified logically depending upon the premises selected.

Some premises are more easily defended than others. ;)

On the reboot subject :

I dont think the board will ever agree. Even after the movie comes out there will be those that say it was and those that say it wasn't.

I honestly think, that given the suspicion that the timeline will be altered somewhat (creating an alternate universe of sorts), the film will have both canon and reboot elements.

Frankly, I dont care.

I just want a good movie.

These are my thoughts as well, although I believe they will remain very faithful to the original. I think the idea is that J.J. wants to invigorate Star Trek, but he also wants loyal fans to know he's got their back too, and understands how important Trek is to a lot of us.

Another thing I find really fun is that J.J. knows how to market this movie. He's really good at holding the carrot out in front and having us follow it.

I hope the marketing strategy works, too. I want people besides Trek fans to think, "wow, this movie might be good!" and head to the theaters. I think he will. I'm eager to see how he does it.

Ohhhh yeah... Abrams and Orci and the rest of the boys are having a LOT of fun playing "internet rumor monger" right now. It's VERY effective marketing and is pretty damned cost-effective, to boot.

It's very important to realize that much of the info out on the net right now is intentional misinformation. Some is also true. But... this is the fun part... how do we know which is which?

Should keep people talking about this flick for the next year, don'cha think? ;)

Oh, I think he's got us totally hooked at this point. Line and sinker.

Apart from the few naysayers (who continue to sit there with their arms folded) we are all following JJ up into the mountain as he pipes a tune on his merry pipe.

Only time will tell whether we should have stayed in the village.

:D

I think a lot of people are going to see this movie out of sheer curiosity. I mentioned this Star Trek movie to my co-workers we aren't hardcore Star Trek fans by any means, but they knew vaguely who Kirk and Spock were and were very intrigued at the idea of the roles being recast with younger actors. So if this movie is a GOOD movie, we'll have a lot non-Trek fans see it out of curiosity and then the good word of mouth will spread and it'll bring more people into the theater. At least that's my fondest hope; we'll just have to see!

it was funny how, when I first told my dad (he's mainly a TOS-er) about it, he was like... no, no, it's not gonna work. and then I showed him the Comic-Con vid of Abrams introducing Quinto, and then Spock.. and he was immediately sold. he thinks Quinto will be great as Spock, but he's not yet sure about Pine. he loves the Shat. anyway, now he's all excited and keeps asking me for casting tidbits and news. so I've gone and introduced him to trekmovie.com ;)

I like the new retro Engineering uniforms! Those red hard hats will be very practical.

I guess GR's vision wasn't futuristic enough because we know what the future is gonna be much better now that we're so much more closer to it. J.J. has been seduced by the dark side I tell you. I mean if the cleverest guy on the planet is not more clever than Roddenberry, who is ?

I was only kidding about this.

Caution: Falling Antiprotons

If an antiproton strikes a positronic brain, the resulting intercranial antihydrogen gas evolved can be pretty horrible.

Those are engineering outfits? Hmmmm. Guess those mid-23rd century engine rooms must be more dangerous than Scotty let on. :D
