So today is the first day of filming for Star Trek XI. It seems only fitting that the OFFICIAL countdown to the film should begin. All of this speculation and planning is finally made real by those first few thousand frames committed to film.
By my count, we have only 414 days to go until the latest and hopefully greatest Star Trek movie arrives. (Correct me if I'm wrong. Like I need to ask.
)
Today also marks my six-year anniversary on this board. I can think of no other way to celebrate all of the many hours of my life wasted on this board than by excitedly preparing to waste at least that many more!
Who's with me?!?
To be honest, I'm actually pretty excited about this film. I haven't heard anything yet that is a total deal-breaker. This is cause for a celebration!
I actually busted out a bottle of champagne, and am drinking a glass right now. Why not?
Abrams has a pretty good track record. Not perfect, but not disastrous, by any means.

This is a major turning point for the Star Trek franchise. The franchise that would not die. The little engine that could. The goose that laid the golden eggs (along with quite a few copper and lead eggs, depending on how exhausted and beaten-down she was at the time.) Will the franchise rise from the ashes? Or will this be the final nail in the coffin?
This is actually a pretty exciting time to be a Trekkie. Will you cling tightly to the old? Will you jettison the old in favor of the uncertain future? Or will you try your best to embrace both worlds?
Are you willing to share Star Trek (whatever that means for you) with the rest of the world? Are you willing to let go of some of what you think Star Trek is in order to share it with enough people to make it viable again?
For the next 414 days (or until this thread sinks off the main page into oblivion, pushed off by a bunch of cock threads, damn you Cogley!
), let's share our hopes and dreams here.
Are you excited? Are you angry?
Is your childhood about to be raped? Will your opinions fluctuate wildly with every new bit of information that is released?
Are you poised to pronounce the film a success? Or are you desperate to gloat that it tanked miserably?
The community that is this forum is still in its infancy, but ties have already begun to form. Much emotion has been shared and some virtual blood has already been shed.
I suspect that the highs and lows we experience right here in this forum over the next 414 days to be far more entertaining than the final product we will be dissecting until then.
Friendships will be forged and broken. Enemies will be made. Cocks will be blocked.
And in the weeks that follow the movie's release, as the fans begin to disband and this forum is dismantled, we will look back and wonder what all the fuss was about. We'll retreat into other subforums or abandon this board entirely... until the next new Trek project is announced and we all come crawling back, like so many Regulan bloodworms.
Until then, let's vow to have one hell of a good time.

Post retarded comments like you don't need the money, love like you've ever kissed a girl, and dance like a naked Uhura on Nimbus III.
