when paramount finally gets over their "Kirk stays dead no matter what" fixation. 13 years of damage is enough. TrekBBS: Bring Back Shatner!

so you joined this forum to make multiple bring back kirk posts? how many per day were you planning? I think if you get up to ten a day paramount will listen to you...or maybe twelve. There is a guy there who is counting I am sure

Not me! I wouldn`t want to be repetitive.

Why don't we give Shat a role and leave Kirk dead? If some other guy can play Kirk, then Shat can play some other guy. Fat, corrupt Orion slave trader is how I envision him. They're looking for a "big name" for the villain, who better? He just needs to play an alien that has enough makeup slapped on him that he's not "obvious" as having any relationship to some other guy who was named Kirk.

How bout a Klingon? I think he'd have a blast as a Klingon. Maybe he could even try to kill (the young) Kirk. You know he wants to!

All joking aside, I don't think Shatner could play anybody but Kirk in this film, especially with such a point having been made of Nimoy returning to play Spock. Shatner is just too recognizable, latexed-up or otherwise, and putting him in any other role would just confuse the audience, I suspect.

Old Kirk's dead - not that he's missed, after the last two or three TOS-based movies he appeared in.

New Kirk, now that might be interesting.

If it takes bringing back Old Kirk to "revive Star Trek," then Trek is finished. A couple of hundred Shatner-As-Kirk fans spamming up the Internet doesn't change reality.

this thread makes me sad. I love Shatner, and Kirk was my boyhood hero. But time passes, the flesh fails. Maybe, MAYBE, there is a Shatner as Kirk cameo possible, but the boys are just too old to carry a film that will be hopefully more than just people talking. This campaign to bring back Kirk makes me sad, like the Youtube video of the "bring back kirk" promo that had De Kelley resurected as a robot.

At most a small role. Let the recast happen. Make peace with it.

I can't help but wonder when people say things like that, is it really age? Or is it more prejudice by the young?

Regardless of age, Nimoy has always had a commanding presence on screen. In the right role, the same can be said of Shatner. Granted, physical roles might be a bit harder, but 90 percent of most physical parts of a role are done by doubles or CGI anyway.

Given the right writer, the right director, the right story and the right respect for the characters, the "old and decrepit" surviving members of the original cast could still be viable for a few more stories.

Jack Lemmon and Walter Mathau made some of their most memorable movies well into their 70's and 80's. Harrison Ford is 65 and I don't hear people complaining that he's to old to play Indiana Jones.

You know, I don't think it's the age, so much as the fat. I mean, as far as wrinkles go, Shatner's doing a lot better than Nimoy. I think if he had stayed even as thin as he was in the movies, these detractors would be a whole lot more willing to give him another go.
Just my opinion.

Why do you dislike Shatner as Kirk so much? I mean, your avatar is REALLY offensive. Is Shatner`s Kirk too John Wayne-ish for you, is that it? Who would you prefer as Kirk? Pee-Wee Herman? A chippendale?

Kirk is not much like most of the characters John Wayne played, except in that they're all heroic stereotypes. Your penchant for exaggeration and lack of precision isn't very useful in making whatever points you may be trying to get across.

I'll just state the fact again: if it takes bringing back Shatner to star as Kirk to revive "Star Trek" then Trek will not be revived.

Fortunately, the alternatives for Trek are not as stark and simplistic as you insist.

I dunno, maybe it's just me but I think the funniest way to deal with it is to have young Kirk defended by Shat as a defense lawyer who never won a case -- until this one of course. Of course, I'm evil, so ignore me.

You have an avatar consisting of s still of Shatner in his final on-screen moments as Kirk from Generations with the caption "Hi, I`m still dead". Maybe it`s just me, UWC Defiance, but it doesn`t exactly express the thought that you`re a fan of Bill Shatner. I`m new to this forum and I don`t know what you problem is with Shatner. Is it that you think he`s too old to play Kirk? I might agree with that. I just think that Bill should be permitted a cameo appearance like Nimoy.

It expresses a sense of humor that you clearly don't get. I think I'll live.

I don't care whether or not Shatner's in the movie. If he is, fine. If he's not, fine. It's trivial compared to what's going on with the film otherwise, and won't have much impact one way or the other.
