I can see the Doctor wouldn't exactly win a popularity contest with you, guys.
Let's see if another hologramme - by far my favourite holoprogramme in the entire franchise - will be more popular. Here's Mr. da Vinci from CONCERNING FLIGHT (but where the hell is Chakotay? :D):

I loved Da Vinci. So cool.

I should also qualify my comments on the doctor. I adored him up until they simply took him too far a little in season 6 and over the top in season 7. When he was willing to alter B'Elanna's baby because she tinkered with his program... how can we honestly believe he isn't just a very advanced computer program. To be honest Picardo made him amazing. I'm not sure a lesser actor could have pulled it off. Tjmo though.

Chakotay/Beltran were absent and that was good for me . Instead, we had another very good supporting role in the person of the Master Leonardo Da Vinci/John Rhys-Davies. :-)

Me too.
Only time where there are some true sexual tension between Janeway and someone else! :-) Plus the storyline was brillantly written. As for the acting, I'd say that Kate Mulgrew and Mark Harelik were at their best! :-)
The storyline was the best and gave Mulgrew a real chance to showcase Janeway's mental prowess and cleverness. And, yes, there was some honest sexual tension between Janeway and Kashyk; IMHO as per the intent of the producers this was by far the best chemistry between Janeway and any other cast member for the entire series, Seven and Tuvok aside (but the intent was not sexual in those cases).

I thought counterpoint was a great character piece for Janeway but I guess I'm one of the few who did not feel any sexual tension between them at all. I think that's probably because I suspected he was playing her right from the start. In fact when she kissed him I was actually repulsed. I thought she had fallen for his trickery and was disappointed in her. Very happy to be proven wrong.

I think Kashyk actually did pull the proverbial wool over Janeway's eyes initially, but part of the reason I love this ep is her poise in recovering from that. She totally does not let him get away with it... and counters his actions and deceptions perfectly imho. Also, and maybe this is just my read and I am incorrect, but I think that some of the chemistry we see between J and K is authentic on the part of K. His original intent was deceit, but he may have been a little surprised to have felt an unexpected attraction to Janeway once the ploy was rolling along.
This is my favorite ep partly because there are a number of angles and details that the viewer can examine over time and I feel it hits the strength of the Janeway character right between the eyes. :luvlove:

I agree it is a great episode. Its craftily written and I love episodes that leave the viewer with one perception, then pull the rug out from underneath them. Psychological episodes like this are rare so it makes it all the sweeter when you find one.

Rock & roll on the Counterpoint 'papers, TE! I love Janeway with Kashyk... ;)
Thanks, CM. More to come in the near future.
Thomas, your composition and choice of colour is becoming more and more sophisticated.
Thanks, Refuge. I guess that I find my way around GIMP quite well by now so these days I like to experiment with items on the menus I never used before.
Also, it is interesting you mentioned colours. Recently I've been thinking about buying a book that would tell me (almost) everything about colours. I haven't followed up on this idea of mine yet … but I've definitely been toying with it.

So apparently the Doctor is not the only person you are not really fond of on Voyager? Interesting … As for me, I love them all! They feel like family to me - something I've never felt with any other shows.

Love the new wallpaper. Love seeing the whole crew together.

I watched Voyager because I loved everyone on the show. The chemistry between all of the cast was great imo, the best crew aside from TOS. Unfortunately the show seemed to lose itself in the later season with season seven being rather uneven. There were some great episodes like Shattered and others that were head scratchers like Renaissance Man and Prophecy. Some characters had a lot of story, others very little and even other characters seemed to be written out of character like the doctor which I found jarring. The ending just seemed to blow everything up. Tjmo though.

Oh come on, my dear Thomas, I never hid that I didn't like Chakotay's character and/or the idea of a Janeway/Chakotay's romance since the beginning (of my subscription on this forum), which earned me some quite violent reactions/recriminations, despite detailed explanation of the reasons that made me think so. Yes, Chakotay/Robert Beltran has got a charming smile but well, the physique of an individual, real or fictional never made anyone sympathetic or likeable ‎as far as I am aware, right?! In fact, personally, it would rather tend to make me suspicious! <grin>

As for the Doctor, I will surely surprise you but I liked him although as a hologram, I didn't recognize him a legal recognition. But right the 4th season, producers/writers led by Robert Picardo changed his character in a grotesque character. From a doctor whose the tasks were classical, he became ‎everything and anything. His omnipotence became for me annoying.

But what really bothered with these two characters is that both have 1) a lot of moralizing in them.

- Chakotay constantly questionned Janeway's decisions and/or physical/mental health, even if it was not always aloud -> I fairly question Chakotay's true motivations: to REALLY second her as any XO would do in that position or to take her seat, to show that he could do better than her, in taking control of Voyager (which proves to be bigger, more powerful & better equipped in armament level and crowded than his former vessel, the Val Jean).
- As for the Doctor, it was simple: he was convinced that he was better than everyone as an individual (although still being a common hologram), able to supplant everyone and in all fields.
-> isn't it ironic that the Doctor teached Seven how to be an individual while himself is unaware of what an individual is and how he behaves!

More I saw them in action, more I wondered if they didn't act/do worse than those they tried to supplant.

2) their lack of gratitude towards Janeway for what she gave to them: freedom to go and to be. Instead, they showed their propensity to betray her trust.

I agree about the doctor. The writers took him too far imo and I lost my love of the character. By the time I watched Author Author I was wanting the old, humorous doctor to come back. Reboot please.

I am surprised about your assessment of Chakotay since most people complain about the character being a lap dog to Janeway and rarely expressing any opinion in opposition to her. They complain he just nods yes all the time.

I personally like the few episodes where Chakotay does object. All too often Janeway comes across as omnipotent. No one ever questions her, even when she goes off the rails as in Equinox. I am not a fan of perfect characters, I love the grey, nor am I of people following someone blindly, as Tuvok does in Equinox. It's because of Janeway's flaws that I love her as a character.

I also do not think Chakotay owes Janeway anything. She needed the Maquis and he made the transition much more smooth by backing her and using his own reputation with his crew to integrate them successfully. He also brought his own experience as a war time Captain to Voyager and a better chief engineer who pulled them out of a few scraps over the 7 years. She would have never considered B'Elanna without Chakotay pushing her.

Chakotay also acted as a great go between for her and the crew, something she admitted she was uncomfortable with in The Cloud.

He was also at war with the Cardassians and had no respect for Star Fleet as he expressed in the Omega Directive so he could have made her life miserable. He did not. Instead he chose to support her star fleet principles, even if he disagreed with them as shown in Alliance.

As for J/C, it has its fans. I did feel the chemistry between the two characters but the show took it into more a close friendship and confidant situation. My understanding is that was the actress' choice.

*re: edit- I was running out the door when I posted this. I checked it now and simply had to make some spelling corrections.

GHBB, I agree with you pretty much all the way on the Doc... but Chakotay not so much (except that, yes, he has a fantastically sexy and charming smile :adore:). I agree with catshadow more on his actual character though. I do agree with you about J/C however, and I think we are both in the minority there, but oh well.

Can you give an example of this?, mainly because I am not sure quite what you mean by "not always aloud". (assume you mean a look he gives her or his body language, but not sure)
