Now, is there evidence for this? I mean ... not for this concrete example but for the fact that the way the show was developed was determined by what fans of the show wanted? I find this bit of info pretty surprising ... even shocking if you ask me ...
Fans clearly choosed Janeway/Chakotay and Paris/Torres to Janeway/Paris, which was in the air at the very beginning but was never seriously treated. And even if the first pairing was quickly given up after 3 seasons to the chagrin of their shippers, the second was much more lucky with the only love story which was developed and ended well, in ST history!
But the content of the whole series equally cleared that fans were rarely heard, alas.
-> I noticed that sometimes, producers/writers accepted to recognize their mistakes, after the airing of the finales or a significant drop in ratings, like Braga did with Enterprise, Shonda Rhimes with her Izzy/ghost Denny or the threesome Callie/Mark/Arizona but often, they stayed on their positions, proud of remaining true to themselves and their work. And in this cases, still according to them, it is often the fault of the fans, who were not placed within their reach!
