While I love the connie refit, she never looked as good as she did in TMP. Think they deliberately tried to dull her paint scheme from then on, so she never quite had the luster of that original pearlised paint job in TMP.

    ST VI was pretty cheap-looking.

I hate that Captain Clean type scene.

all good points. however, the plot hole of valeris going on about it being impossible to fire a phaser unnoticed aboard a starship when in the galley and then rushing in sickbay with one (also, was there no doctors or nurses present?) to presumably kill burke and samno sours the movie for me.

They explained that in the movie, though. Phasers on stun at close range don't set off the alarms.

Indeed. When she destroys the pot on the stove, it's clear she's referring to higher settings on phasers that set off the alarms. And the fact that she had already killed Burke and Samno with stun from close range and hadn't gotten caught made it plain that it could be done.

I really liked the look of ST II and III, like the 23rd century was just the year 1984 continued unabated for nearly three hundred years.

Or at least that fashion goes in cycles.

Not just the fashion, but things like the low-resolution CRT-based computer displays.

Just had the treat of a rewatch of TUC yesterday and I thought it looked fantastic. The story and dialogue were great too.

My only visual quibbles are Valeris' uniform mismatch, Spock's ears don't look quite right, and the displays on Spock's and Uhura's bridge stations are unimpressive. Oh, and neither the Enterprise nor the Excelsior fires a phaser bank, but I think the last ship's phaser (until Generations) we saw was in TWOK.

They convey information more succinctly than the busy translucent panels in Discovery.

The trasnlucent panels would probably be a nightmare to actually use IRL (ditto free-floating hologram text), but they open up a world of dynamic shots where you can see the expression of the actor AND the information they're reading.

    And thus they're awesome.

Star Trek VI was one of the blu-rays that got DNR'd up the wazoo wasn't it?

Then again it didn't look too bad at least on DVD compared to the other TOS films. At least they went to some effort to make the sets look less obvious that they were the TNG ones... unlike Star Trek V.
