Star Trek V: Mostly Awful Movie, Excellent Soundtrack

I have a weird soft spot for Star Trek V.

I like it to be honest...

"Jim, you don't ask the almighty for his ID".

SAME HERE.

I think there was a sincere attempt to tell a thoughtful story with heart.

I think the Director really tried to succeed.

I like Kirk climbing El Capatain referencing man trying to get closer to God.

The music was great. I like the color palette & look of the film. I like the Observation Room with the boat wheel & the Enterprise bridge. DeForest Kelley did some of his best work with the scene of his Father's death. I like the use of the Shuttlecraft. I wish they found a way to make the Rockmen work!

Sybok really screwed up.

I really like this movie

The movie has a great soundtrack. My favourite track is A Busy Man. I did enjoy the camp fire scene with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.

I just watched Trek V the other day. I wholeheartedly agree it's a fantastic soundtrack.

The movie itself is curious. It is a complete compromise of William Shatner's original vision since he had to appease Paramount's bean-counters who slahed his budget and ultimately Gene Roddenberry's nixing of the whole 'actually finding God' story. Too bad, because it would have been an interesting story had it had the support.

That said, the movie has some of the best character moments, especially among Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

What I did this last time watching was just identify those parts that worked vs. those other parts that really didn't. The parts that don't work, some of the SFX, fight scenes, plot points and painfully bad "jokes", REALLY don't work. At all. But those moments that do work are among the best in Trek. IMO of course. :)

Yes, you're correct. I had to go back to WS Movie Memories to re-remember the events.

It was Bennett that didn't like the concept of searching for God because, ultimately, someone or some group would be either vastly disappointed or outright offended. And he did have the authority to nix. :)

Roddenberry made a stink, but it was more to the greenlight WS got to do his story about God when the studio nixed his attempt 10 or so years earlier with his story 'The God Thing'.
