Right, German translations go all the way back to the early 70s. Translations into other languages started a bit later, and appear to have run their course by the early 00s.

Did any other publisher beside Heyne insert actual commercials into the translated text? I saw an example of a Voyager novel where Janeway orders up a mug of delicious Maggi soup from her replicator.

Soup doesn't necessarily seem like the best product placement for Janeway.

I didn’t realize that the product placement scandal was that recent. I heard it about via Diane Duane, but my impression had been that it was an ‘80s phenomena, long before there was a Captain Janeway.

Are there translations into any other languages? I know there used to be Japanese, French, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Hebrew, Polish (I think -- and I know I'm missing some) in addition to German, but German has probably the largest number of translations. There have been one-offs, like the Japanese translations of the Kelvinverse novelizations, but I'm not aware of anyone with a regular program of translations into any language besides German since the '00's.

I believe the regular Czech novel translations are still going, are they not?

If we start hearing people saying they've received/picked up the book, and no one else has set up a review thread yet, then I'll usually try to get one up. Delayed releases and outright broken promises have become so much the norm for S&S/Pocket on TrekLit that this one finally making it into the bookstores caught everybody by surprise.

I see it at some (but not all) of the local B&N locations.

Managed to pick this up today while out Christmas shopping. (Nothing wrong with buying a gift for yourself, right? )
