Although the first splinter officially begins in 2373, it's existence depends on events in Destiny which cover a much larger span. Oblivion's Gate suggested the First Contact Borg may have had a different origin to the Destiny Borg, so I think it's a valid suggestion that it goes much further back.

Sure, you can nitpick such details if you like -- heck, my own DTI: The Collectors goes back 64 million years -- but the very existence of Harm's Way demonstrates that the official conceit for now is that the TOS-era novelverse is still valid until the shows say otherwise. That conceit may not hold up to detailed examination, but the same goes for many narrative conceits. Best not to conjecture in advance of actual events.

I mean, I don't think anything in expanded TOS concerning Klingons really works in light of warring Klingons successfully breaching the Sol system perimeter in 2257 as per DIS season 1. And if Section 31 were so elite and respected a mere decade earlier, then T'Prynn or Reyes would surely have crossed paths to speak of them at some point.

Oh, that's not irreconcilable at all. Sure, the characters compared what happened to Ransom to Gary Mitchell, but it was obviously different, giving him godlike power instantly rather than through a gradual exponential increase. So there's no reason to assume it had the same source, despite their analogy. And since the real truth behind Mitchell's power was classified at the end of THF, the characters in LD just wouldn't know that the analogy was wrong. Which is part of why I did it that way, since I knew that my explanation would not be acknowledged anywhere else. Classifying things is a handy way to justify why nobody mentions them later on.

Although what's been revealed about Uhura's backstory in the recently reported Strange New Worlds clip completely blows Living Memory out of the water.

That was already hard to reconcile with prior canon, e.g. "The Infinite Vulcan" and The Wrath of Khan both saying the Federation had kept the peace for a century. So do you want to say TWOK was in an alternate timeline? Or just accept that it's an inconsistent franchise?

As I recall, the end of DSC season 2 suggested that Section 31 was discredited and nominally dismantled, or reorganized into something more secret.

Personally, I think it's striking. Now that you mention it, I wonder if the thought process was, "What would be eye-catching at thumbnail size in an ereader library?"

I suspect that was part of the conversation. So much of book buying happens online that the more identifiable the product can be made at thumbnail size, the better, from a sales standpoint.

Are there translations into any other languages? I know there used to be Japanese, French, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Hebrew, Polish (I think -- and I know I'm missing some) in addition to German, but German has probably the largest number of translations. There have been one-offs, like the Japanese translations of the Kelvinverse novelizations, but I'm not aware of anyone with a regular program of translations into any language besides German since the '00's.
