News Star Trek: The Official Guide To The Animated Series

My copy arrived today and I must say I'm blown away by all the beautiful artwork! I haven't had time to go in-depth with the actual text, but just flipping through it my eyes went  several times.

Also, I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised to find out in this very thread that our own @GeekFilter is the (co-)author of this tome! I guess that explains the cool schematic of the Bonaventure in the back of the book, right? Thanks so much for bringing us this amazing book!

By the way, were there any more concept sketches of the Bonaventure or the cargo drone ship that couldn't be included in the book?

It actually covered the initial concept with the added teenagers characters and even has the concept image for that included.

Interestingly enough apparently they were also considering just doing teenage version of the TOS cast even had concept art for teenager Kirk.

Probably for the best that Roddenberry shot down those ideas.

We got that version in 2009.

How in depth does the book go? I love the series and know only less about that incarnation of Trek than any other.

Oddly enough, this arrived at my house yesterday! I must have put it in the "Save for later" portion of my Amazon card, cuz, the missus ordered it.

I read a lot of it last night. It's a nice, breezy book and very pretty. Kinda confused about which episodes assembled the entire cast for recording, though. It's said there were only three (all done in the same day), but "The Magicks of Megas-Tu" is also said to be one of the "three." Were there four then?

The early sketches of the cast for the 1969 concept were cool. I do wish there was more about that and am surprised how closely some of the character models followed the actors' likenesses. They obviously had to be simplified for production, but it's a shame they only vaguely got Spock right.

Some of that comes from what the different people we interviewed said. That's what I told StarTrek.com was one of the hardest things to research. Ask 3 different people get 3 different answers. And sadly many of those people are deceased or just don't remember. To them at the time it was just a job. A fun job, but still I wonder in 45 years what I will remember about putting together this book!

This is a must have for the long-time, deep-diving fans of TAS as the production that--more than any other to follow--ran with TOS' torch. After years of articles, the old Files TPBs from the 80s, .and other attempts to cover all that was TAS, this book assembled most of what anyone would ever want to know about the series.

Well worth the wait.

I received my copy yesterday! I will be seating this weekend to savor every page of this book!

Just finished the book. I like it a lot, the artwork & layouts are awesome. Beautiful job!

I only wish the proofreader had caught a few more of the typos. Considering that the actual text is fairly brief, the number of typos seems high. Ari bn Bem’s home planet is Pandro, not “Pandor”.

Forgive me if I missed something, but anyone notice this—Official Guide To Star Trek - The Animated Series? https://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Official-Guide-Animated/dp/1681884216/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Star+Trek:+The+Official+Guide+to+the+Animated+Series&qid=1570006536&s=books&sr=1-1

ooks interesting. Anyone have one yet or seen it first hand?
I have it and I like it. The artwork reproduction is first rate. Lot's of first hand interviews. I like the behind-the-scenes technical production info and other stories.

Wasn't sure where to place this...

The Animated Series Blu-ray is on sale through Amazon for $16.99 today.

One of the things I was hoping to see was early concept sketches for some of the new ships seen in TAS, such as some of the shuttlecraft and Starfleet frighters. There is a bit of that in the book, but not much. There looks to be some added design details to be gleaned not noticeable in the aired episodes but, again, not much. There is a very nice image of the shuttlecraft from "Slaver Weapon"--enough to inspire me taking yet another crack at making a realistic 3D model interpretation, which is something I haven't done in a long time.

Last time I took a crack at it.

Do you really need it of you've got the DVD's, though?

And does it have the same "corrections" the DVDs have, which did weird things like turn the Delta Triangle black when it was originally red?

Really need it? Of course not. But the price was decent enough that I wanted to add it to my collection.

Pretty sure the changes are still there. I won't know until I watch the actual episodes.

At some point I'm going to replace my TAS DVDs with the blu-ray set. I just don't like the blocky digital artifacting that comes from upscaling.
