Star Trek: The Motion Picture 40th Anniversary theatre release 2019.

Interesting...do we know how this compares to some of the other Fathom re-releases?

It did really well for a 40-year-old movie: $346,243 domestic total for the four screenings.

For those interested in the recently republished novelization of TMP (in trade paperback from Gallery Books), there is a review thread at TrekLit. Even if you read the book 40 years ago, the new version has the same text, so even old memories would be okay to add, and a chance to rank the book.

Also this month, there is an unabridged audio from Simon & Schuster Audio, read by Robert Petkoff. I'm loving that!

My quest to get a 40th anniversary screening for Australia has paid off - in three states!

I had contacted the Facebook pages of two cinemas famous for retro screenings and told them that the US was getting the Fathom events. Now the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace has scheduled a screening for December 8 (so to thank them I bought 24 tickets and am celebrating my birthday there).

The Dendy chain decided to schedule for December 13, not only in Newtown (Sydney, NSW), but Canberra (ACT) and Cooparoo (Brisbane, QLD). Mission: Successful!

The Prince Charles Theatre in London was full for our showing, although that might be because they initially only advertised it for two dates, so many people outside London will have booked today, even though it's on for the whole week.

It was an old 35mm print so not the quality of the DE but still good fun. The crowd loved McCoy's dialogue and the guy in front of me in the queue had an awesome home made short sleeved Kirk tunic.

Hopefully the attendance met expectations.

I would’ve really enjoyed a 35 mm print. Although the digital scam that they projected here in the states had the look of actual film grain, there’s something about an actual 35 mm print that I love...

For those wondering, last night we were treated to the pristine version used to create the most recent commercial Blu-Ray of the theatrical edition. Sound and picture were gorgeous and the members of my theatre party were thrilled. For some it was their first time watching TMP in 40 years. For some, it was actually their first time seeing it on the big screen, and for several of my friends it was their first time ever.
