Star Trek: The IMAX Experience--Two Weeks Only!!!

I've got myself set up to see the movie three times now... :drool: :techman:

...Twice Thursday @ 7PM and Midnight (regular Screens at BowTie Theater in Schenectady), then Friday at 9:30AM on IMAX at Crossgates Regal Theater, (yeah, I finally broke-down and bought a $17.25 dollar ticket...:eek:)

Question on this: has anyone actually watched a feature film in IMAX? The only IMAX movies I've seen have been the documentary ones, and I found them a bit motion-sickness-inducing and too big to see details. How does that compare to the feature film experience? Thanks. {ProfJonathan}

i saw superman returns at the imax and was really disappointed to say the least. the image was really grainy. it looked much better on the normal movie screen.but then ive heard that it wasnt really shot for imax , so that could be the reason for the poor image.
Superman Returns was shot on HD cameras, not film stock--35mm film has twice the resolution of HD cameras--the "blow up" for SR was starting at a lower resolution than Trek would.

i dont know why but i have seen films not shot for imax look both bad and good after being transfered to imax.
maybe it was in the quality of the original print or in the quality of the care taking with transfering up to imax size but a movie not shot originally all for imax can still look not as great as one shot in format but still really good.
In recent years (last three or so) IMAX has developed some processing tools that make non-IMAX footage look a lot better (provided it was on film stock--HD camera footage also benefit, but not as much). It's why the Dark Knight non-IMAX footage looked better than Spider-Man 2. The same processing should be in play for the Trek film.

thanks for the explanation.
i had plan to research it but hadnt gotten around to it.
but the improvment in films not shot as imax has very much improved over the last couple years.

Woo hoo I just bought my tickets for Sat 5/9 for IMAX!! (I will of course be seeing on Thursday 5/7 7pm).

I've seen IMAX feature films before and it is amazing. It is like going from regular tv to HD. Hard to go back.

Is there a listing of IMAX theaters that will be getting this? The closest IMAX to me only has listings up through the end of april.

I am a projectionist at an IMAX theater and will be setting up our IMAX print of Star Trek next week. Can't wait to preview it a few times.

We will be opening Night At The Museum 2 two weeks later. I remember we had the first one in IMAX, and it died right away. We will probably keep Star Trek and start showing that again when Museum sales die off and also probably re-release it at the end of the summer.

Maxx
