Star Trek: The Experience FINAL SHOW ticket auction!

My dad and I went for 2 days in July 2006. We spent both days only at STTE, so I'd say I've been on both somewhere between 15-25 times each. It'd be pretty cool to be that person that's been on the rides over 1000 times! (does that mean he's rode more than 1000 times or that he's been there 1000 times though?)

I assume that's over-and-over riding on each visit. For me it was always at least three, sometimes as many as ten.

I do Vegas at the very least once a year and The Experience became the first place I’d hit and my last stop before I left town. Over the last 10 years my STTE tally is about 60 visits, did the Klingon ride about 40 times, Borg 4D about 20, BST once, and won’t even try to guess how much I’ve spent at Quarks... both the bar and restaurant, or in the Admiral’s Quarters and Promenade Shops. However, regardless of what it’s cost me, I’ve loved every of it minute of it. Even though it’s going away, I at least have my showcase full of "Experience" collectibles plus the 80gigs of photos I’ve taken.

During my trip home a couple weeks back I started thinking about creating a CG STTE. Basically building The Experience as a 3D CG model/scene, then create a virtual walk-through from that. It’s a huge undertaking but something that’d be kinda cool to do. I’m a visual effects artist by trade so I have the tools and firepower to do it.
Anyone happen to have access to any of the STTE construction blueprint D-Sheets /floor plans/ elevations/ detail plans? If so let me know what kind of deal we can work out. We can talk in private about it. I’d have no problem compensating anyone who could help out with that kind of reference material. Last week I actually had a lead on quite a few of the sheets but now that guy can’t find them. He thinks they might have been tossed when his wife "reorganized" the garage. :brickwall:

I pretty much have the place covered photo wise (minus the ride areas) and already have hero CG models of the ships.
Hopefully there’s still enough good reference materials floating around out there to make this happen.

I have 1 blueprints from STTE and am getting some more electronically when I get to STTE on Sunday (I know a guy that has several). There is also someone on ebay that bought a set of 48 pages, I can try and contact him if you want.

I always thought creating a Virtual tour would be cool; I was thinking as a mod/conversion for Elite Force when I was doing some modding, but never really had to capability. I thought it would be really cool since it's a FPS so it would be like you're really walking around.

I dont have PM rights yet, but if you want, you can email me at trekker670[at]yahoo.com (MODS: I didnt see anything in the rules against this, but if it isnt allowed, please feel free to edit this out)

I'll be at Star Trek: The Experience for the final two days. On Sunday I'll probably be in a regular, dark-colored, short-sleeved shirt with a bar of gold-pressed latinum on a chain around my neck. On Monday I'll be in a TNG series command uniform with commander's pips. I'm 43, about 5'11", a bit of grey hair, and my name really is Dale. If you're there and you spot me, come on over and introduce yourself. We'll toast the glory that was Star Trek: The Experience! I'll probably be in Quark's most of Sunday and all day Monday 'til they finally kick us out!

trekker670:
Thanks for the reply. I'll privately email you soon with more info on what I'm planning.

I'm very serious about building up something in CG. More than likely it'll be similar to an archiviz "pre-sell" or proof-of-concept, where there will be camera moves around a dozen or so key attraction elements, edited together to a Trek-related music bed. The shots will be rendered photo-realistically, including trying to come close as possible to matching all the lighting elements. That’s why the more detailed reference materials I can get, the better.
I'd love to have access to the place once it closed down to properly photograph all the small decorative detailing, lighting fixtures, etc.

Your idea of an EF mod would sure be awesome.

I could kick myself in the a$$ for never going to Las Vegas, it's something I always wanted to do but never got around to doing it. Do you think they will auction off the sets and equipment?

I just got back from a 4 day jaunt to Vegas, primarily to see the Experience on last time. I live out in NY, so getting to Vegas more than once every 5 years is financially impossible for me, but the LVH room rates were amazingly low ($59 a night) and the airfare was equally cheap ($300 r/t), so I knew I had to get there.

To be honest...I was fairly depressed at the atmosphere of finality, like being on the set of Turnabout Intruder, I guess. If you're going this weekend, don't expect to find anything in the gift shop except for $30 communicators (tons of them not marked down - grrr), DS9 and Borg teddy bears (marked down - yaay) , some pins and the Klingon and Andorian Mego repros.

However, the staff was as into it as ever, and I even got a hug from the cashier girl at the gift shop. Suzie Plackson and Beverly Washburn were there signing pictures and greeting fans, like a mini-convention. The wife and I had our pictures taken in the Borg alcove and the Bridge (where two fans contributed assistance attaching fan owned pins and getting the oversized shirts on). I even got a small teeny bit o'fame during the bridge picture as "the make it so guy." lol

I had my last meal at Quarks (awesome Hamborger but their fries are awful) and saw hundreds of messages pinned to the walls from fans who expressed their appreciation and disappointment at the attraction closing.

I said goodbye to the last remaining place keeping pre-JJ Abrams Trek alive, sad in the knowledge that most of the physical, non-TV series original props and sets will most likely be demolished rather than stored.

I also said goodbye to the Las Vegas Hilton, since now there is absolutely NO reason for me to ever go there again. They're too far from the strip, they don't have any good place to eat (except Paradise Cafe, but the wait staff is horrific) and they have butt-ugly cocktail waitresses.

Me too. I was there for the Star Trek convention a few weeks ago, and knowing it would be my last time put a pall over the whole weekend.

I'm going to miss the Experience. So much. I'm also going to miss the whole vacation -- going to the convention there, staying at the Hilton. I thought the Hilton was a pretty nice place to stay, but it won't be the same now.

I actually don't see myself going back to Las Vegas at all now.

As much as I'll miss the Experience, I still plan on attending the conventions in Vegas.
It won't be the same without the Experience, but I still have much fun to look forward to in the conventions.

digefxgrp, I'd be happy to help out with your project. I really don't have too much experience in this field, but sounds like you have plenty of that.

A CG STTE would be very cool. I don't suppose there'd be a way to turn into a Virtual world that like a website where people can pick avators and interact with each other, that might be asking for too much.

Either way, I'd love to help out with a virtual Star Trek The Experience.

In case you didnt notice, the STTE website was removed today, but it still appears on the hilton's website

Any chance at all some other location will pick this up?

Every day I seem to get more bad news about Star Trek. Soon, nothing will be left it seems. Even novels are slowing down.

I went to the experience with my father, and I wanted nothing more than to bring my son there some day. And now, that is no longer a possability.

I really have no faith in the future of ST. I mean, it seems like there are SO many fans, yet, every time I read something, it says these things were closed due to low attendance or cancelled due to lower viewership.

It really is a shame.

All we really have right now are rumors, but from the sounds of it, there is some hope. Just remember, it will not be the same STTE we know and love; it will be different, but we can probably learn to love it too (assuming a new attraction ever happens)

What rumors???

I will forever miss the old STTE. It's still hard to believe it's gone.
