Star Trek: The Experience dead?

Biggshow, that sounds so outgrageous, it might just be true! And if it is true, it may be the best option I've heard for the reboot for many reasons: The infrastructure is already in place, MOST people still think of the Hilton when they think of STTE (no "change of location" ads needed), the convention appears to not be leaving the Hilton anytime soon (at least for 2010), and all involved can save a little face by saying it's a "renovation" of the old STTE.

On a personal note, I would have an absolute joy-gasm at the thought of those morons that made the decision to end it having to eat a little crow. I know the decision was ultimately Cedar Fair's, but the Hilton may have been a little too greedy as well. (We will never know...) I feel that there was probably enough blame to go around for all parties invoved. (CBS, Hilton, Cedar Fair)

On a side note, my wife & I had such a great time at the STTE party Sunday night! (I had WAY too many James Tea Kirks that night...) It was so good to meet you and to put a face with the name...LONG LIVE KRALK, SON OF T'NEK!

If this rumour turns out to be true I willl stoked. I'm not holding my breath though.

As much as I want ST:TE to re-open, I think opening back at the Hilton would be a mistake. You'd essentially be walking right back into the problems that affected the original attraction: an off-strip location, a host hotel/casino that didn't always "get" the attraction or the audience, difficulty in marketing to a new audience.

Odd as it is, I do think Fremont Street would be a better choice. That location is predicated solely on foot traffic, and once those people have explored the handful of casinos and watched the light show, they'll be looking for something to do. It would be impossible to miss, and I would think an even bigger crowd of occasional fans would find this than the Hilton.

As for opening in an existing theme park, I also think this would be a mistake. ST:TE was self-contained and completely immersive. As a storytelling element, I would hate to see it diluted by the other competing stories going on at a theme park. Also, keep in mind that most rides at a theme park are designed to load and off-load quickly. ST:TE was designed to keep people around with a bar, restaurant, museum and interactive characters. I can't see that flying too well inside Disney World. Guests probably wouldn't bee too keen on spending a high theme-park admission then spending half the day in one spot feeling like they had missed the rest of the park.

I also think a new, high foot-traffic area would be best for STTE-A and I'm somewhat skeptical of this Hilton story. On the other hand, if Joshi and Associates can't get it together, that may have its own issues which would ultimately get in the way of the kind of Experience we all want. As I've mentioned before and as the previous poster mentioned, opening inside an existing theme park has its downside, too. However, opening in some place like Universal's Citywalk or Downtown Disney (both free to walk around in and both have other corporate entities involved) could be ...er...the best of both worlds. Yes, I said it.

If anyone went to last weekend's Star Trek convention in Las Vegas and walked over to where the ST TE was, there was a very moving scene there.. dozens (if not hundreds) of post-its were plastered on the wall where the ST Experience was...the space is still there and nothing has been done to it.... u can see the photos thru TREKMOVIE.COM 's FLICKR page...

it was so sad to see so many Post-Its...people really missed it.. but it was a tough situation for all parties...they couldn't make enough $ from the attraction and it was starting to get out-dated...

In an interview with KVBC, the architects responsible for remodelling Neonopolis to house STTE-A, say they are hard at work. There was no timeline given but this does indicate that work is progressing, just not as fast as we would like.

Two Vegas friends saw the story differently: one said it looked like a clear indication that the project is still moving. The other said it looked like a rehash of older stories with little new information (same old, same old). You be the judge.

Just wondering if there is any new info, hungry for an update. Please have good news.

This is just slightly related...I read on OpenVegas, a poster stated that Barry Manilow is supposed to be leaving the Hilton for the Mandalay Bay in 2010, leaving the Hilton with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to draw visitors away from the Strip. Does this possibly lend a little more credence to the rumor about the Hilton bringing back STTE to their location?

Hello all,

I had managed to stop by Neonopolis last weekend, and I'm sorry to report, it's not looking good.

The whole mall is deserted except for 3-4 stores, the recently closed theatre already looks like it's been closed for years.. some of the movie poster signs are smashed, etc..

Even IF the experience was to open there tomorrow, I doubt.. no..I know it can't support an entire mall. It would do well for 6 months, maybe a year.. but it can't support a ghost town of a mall. As much as I miss it, and loved it when it was here.. I think it's dead Jim..

The mall owner should just come out and say it's not happening, maybe sell the rights back to the Hilton.. which STILL has the space vacant after more than a year..

Anyways, thought you all would like an update.

Cheers.

If any of you want more details, feel free to ask.. :)

Why do all the lunatics comment on an article like that? It reflects poorly on Trek fans in general. Look at the first comment. They claim Trek fans are already offended by the term 'Trekkies' and goes on to misquote Gene Roddenberry as well.
GR preferred the term 'Trekkies' as has been posted on this board previously, regardless of the term preferred by individual fans. (I prefer 'Trek fan'.)

Yeah the Hilton really screwed the pooch on this one. That empty space sure is generating alot of revenue.

This past summer I've come to accept that The Experience won't be back, and that's a real shame. The convention isn't half as fun without it.

Speaking of, I really wish they would move the convention. Not just out of the Hilton. Either get it out of Vegas or out of the heat of summer.

I think they should bring it back, It should be in a state where its possible for anyone to go there. I think putting it in Las Vegas maybe, made it to hard for travelers to go there often. I could see it in Florida or Texas.

While I would love to see STTE return to Vegas at some point (if nothing else, my friends would be re-employed), it is possible that the starship has sailed on that project. I had a great time there, both as an emplyee and as a casual fan. Houston seems a natural as does someplace near the Kennedy Space Center.

I guess we'll see.
