Star Trek: The Experience dead?

Wow thats sad. I thought after the huge success of the new Trek movie it would be opening sooner rather than later but now it sounds like it wont open at all. :(

I actually kinda like the CA Adventure idea. There's one BIG problem I see with both of these ideas. It was always FREE to actually get into The Experience, i.e., Quark's and retail, so it made a great place for Trekkies to just go and hang with fellow Trekkies. If you wanted to go on the rides, that's when some heavy cash outlay was necessary (not that Quark's was cheap :) ). However, this would be yet another reason for me to buy a season pass to D-land.

It'll never happen, but I wish they would move it to San Francisco. It is the home of Starfleet after all, and we could probably get it into someplace like the Metreon (which was designed for attractions like this but could never get a good one.)

Huh. I just read an article about the place and, yeah, it sound like it might have been ideal. I wonder if new owners, Westfield, should approach Mayor Goodman and CBS about taking over Neonopolis...

Actually, the two places sound virtually identical - they even have some of the same restaurants.

It's a plot!

Wait a minute. What's that smell? Good it be...a letter/e-mail writing/phone call campaign coming?

Here's the first bit of contact info:

CBS Consumer Products
1700 Broadway
New York, NY 10019
Phone: 212-315-4000
Attn: Liz Kalodner
Executive Vice President and General Manager, CBS Consumer Products

More to come.

I have no particular interest in this issue, but I would advise people who take part in a letter-writing campaign to emphasize aspects of the issue which are relevant to the people that you're writing. Business folks care about profit and return on assets. Politicians care about tax revenue and employment.

Exactly. And always be polite. Nothing gets your letter shitcanned or your e-mail deleted faster than "How can you be so stupid..."

In the other thread I alluded to earlier, much has been made of the fact that Goodman and the Vegas tourist board, among others, wants Neonopolis to succeed. It appears that Mr. Joshi is not the person to make this happen. However, if enough fire is placed to his feet, he may finally step up to the plate. Or be replaced.

Sad now :(..

Say it's not so!!!!!!:(

You guys. Before anyone gets suicidal I feel a need to point out that there is simply no new info. We've known for months that the slow economy was slowing things down. Mr. Joshi's management "skills" also bring some baggage. STTE-A could still happen and it could still happen in some form by next summer. I'm saying we should try to let the various PTB know that there is a fanbase out here clamoring for it.

Demonstration at Neonopolis first weekend in Aug. sounds like as good a time as any to show our Starfleet colors.

I worked at the Star Trek: The Adventure attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood for 3 summers..it was great.. met most of the TOS cast--when they filmed a commercial for the attraction..they had a gift shop (small but nice)--they had Playmates Toys, Uniforms, pin, patches, VHS (no DVD back then), Franklin plates and ST Coins...great times for a young man back then...it was there for almost 10 years...that area is now the Shrek 4-D show

My wife and I found out about it ending it's run just before we were married, and even though the finances were tricky with the big event so close, we made the effort. She was determined that, as a fan, I must make the pilgrimage (she'd seen it herself on a prior occasion). So we went a few weeks before it was scheduled to end.

I was so moved and overwhelmed by the beam up experience and being thrown into the adventure, that I became overly sentimental. Okay, ok, it brought on tears. She was totally laughing and did not let me live that down. :) It was a real blast.

To top it all off, we coincidentally were there at the same time that a Star Trek convention was going on, so we popped our heads in to take a look there, too. I didn't escape the burning desire to snag the Wrath of Khan Enterprise (beautiful ship). Great times; it was more of an experience than I expected!

I'm really sorry to hear we might not ever have another STE again! One year some friends along with myself and husband made our trip to Mecca by going to the STE in Vegas. It was during the first show (not the Borg Experience) and i too found it to be an incredibly wonderful experience. I also choked up when on the bridge and found myself so thrilled to walk the corridors and be "beamed". It was all so well done! We went to Quarks and to the shops where i bought a fabulous denim jacket which i have literally worn to death (as you can see at the neckline/shoulder). I need to find another jacket to have the embroidery from the old one sewn onto the back as i will never find anything like this ever again.

The husband and i always talked about renewing our vows on the Bridge....

A letter writing campaign sounds like a great idea~

All New Rumor!

Overheard at last weekend's Vegas Con, apparently someone who knows the local Hilton (or Resorts International; they're licensing the Hilton name) manager says that there are now negotiations with CBS and Joshi and Associates to bring The Experience back to the Hilton. As most rumors are, the details are a bit foggy; either Joshi and Associates would run STTE-A (YIKES! IMHO) or the Hilton would run it with Joshi and Associates acting as intermediaries with the various construction and design firms. The impetus for the move back seems to be a lack of anything to move into the 65,000 sq.ft. hole left by The Experience and an acknowledgement that revenues at the Hilton are down. Also, attendance at this year's Creation Con was considerably down from previous years but the action at the Spacequest Bar on Sunday was through the roof. Those of us who attended also left post-its on the wall where STTE used to be reliving memories and demanding (although just how demanding a post-it can be is up for debate) the The Experience be brought back.

If I haven't made it obvious, this is all very much friend-of-a-friend type of "news". As former employee, April Hebert says, "This is the first I've heard of it. I still think we just have to wait and see."

But how can this be happening with this new movie being so successful??? HOW??????? Isn't there more money to be made from old and new Trek fans alike?

This reminds me when they had that limited exhibit at the Smithsonian...me and a couple of fellow trekkers that I worked with at the time made the pilgramage down there...just to find out that they fuckin closed it down for that weekend. I was so upset...there are just pictures of me standing next to the exhibit...but certainly not in it...I'm still bitter.
C'mon the American POP culture will not want the "old" prime Trek. Just the new reboot stuff.

The sensible, rational part of my mind says that there is no freaking way this could be true.

The giddy Trekkie part is simply shouting a premature YIPPEE!

There's a certain perverse justice in the idea that they'd spend all that dough to put back what they already had that makes me smile. An evil little smile, but a smile all the same.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Well Biggshow, that is some fantastic news if it turns out to be true.. Please please please keep us posted on any developments.. Oh, and thanks for all the information in the last year or so.. I was a gigantic fan of the STTE, and any news about it reopening is awesome.
