Star Trek: The Experience celebrates 10 Year Anniversary

Hey, kids,

I can't believe it. I haven't worked there in 5 years and I'm still pimping the place.

On Jan. 4th, Star Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas (www.startrekexp.com) is celebrating its 10th Anniversary by offering NV residents free rides all day (out of state guests recieve 10% off). I just talked to a couple of friends who still work there and the idea is that for a few of the shows, they will have all acting positions filled. Anyone who's been through recently has seen skeleton crews operating the Enterprise. This is a chance to see it like it was when it first opened.

Also, I fell into the trap of thinking that the 10 year contract with the Hilton would be up by this date (the beginning of the tenth year) as opposed to next Jan. (the end of the tenth year). Its the same problem all the fake end of the millenium parties had at the end of 1999 . Anyway, the conventional wisdom among the employees is that the Experience has another year to go and that there's a wait and see attitude among all the various PTB (Hilton, Cedar Fair, Paramount/CBS) if there will be any crossover attendance boost from having the new movie opening next year. Creation is already booked for next summer, so the place will most likely stay open till then.

So bottom line for us fans of the Experience, if you want it to stick around, go buy Warp Core Breaches at Quark's (or at least some Romulan Ale). Write to the management of Cedar Fair, the Las Vegas Hilton (not the Hilton corporation; the LV Hilton is licensing the name), and Paula Block of CBS licensed products). Push Paramount to have the premiere of the ST movie at the Experience. Tens of Klingons, Ferengi, Andorians, and deassimilated Borg are counting on you for future employment.

For those of you who know me, my old buddy, Kralk, son of T'Nek, may be making an appearance on the 4th. See you then.

Happy Anniversary!

I won't be able to make it for the 4th of January, but I will be taking an extended vacation to Vegas in August, but not just for the convention. I will be going to visit The Experience as much as possible, :bolian:

If you are a Trek fan and you haven't seen ST:TE, you don't know what you're missing. It's awesome!

I read on startrek.com about the Star Trek Tour that will be traveling the country. I saw that they will have both the 1701 and the 1701-D bridges on display amd I started wondering if the D's bridge will be the one from ST:TE. I know that there are two D bridges there; one they use for the Klingon Encounter and the other for tours, although I believe the second was a back up to the first before the Borg 4D ride was added. Any way, both look fantastic. Perhaps Paramount is removing the second D bridge from ST:TE to use for the tour and to make room for a new TOS ride based on the new movie due out IN LESS THAN A YEAR!! (Feels good to be able to say/write that finally.)

I love the Experience. We always have a blast when we visit, and it's so much fun to engage the characters in discussion.

The rides are great fun, but I have to say it's the people who work there that really make the place.

Cool. What did you do there, BTW?

I started out as one of the performers in the attraction, was promoted to lead (analogous to stage manager), and am most "famous" as Kralk, son of T'Nek, of the Klingon Security Force on the station (for those unaware of the backstory, the Experience is a Federation Time Station allowing scientists from the future to study out time period). You can see me and Motog at the end of the trailer for Rod Roddenberry's upcoming documentary, "Trek Nation".

Also, the Experience still has both bridges. One is used for weddings and pictures in the Captain's chair.

Lots of congrats to all involved in the Experience. I'll be in Vegas starting the 1st, but I really didn't plan on dragging my wife down there again. She's been a real good sport for all my other trips to Vegas in the past 10 years. May be able to get a walk through of the Prominade, in any case.
Let's hope for another 10 years, and then some!

Sweet, it's hard to believe it's actually been around that long. I guess I should really try to make it down there a second time.

Kralk, you PetaQ! (or however the worthless Klingons spell it.)

The Experience was pretty cool. On one of my very rare trips out west, I organized my flights so that I had a six hour layover in Vegas. That was plenty of time to check out the Experience and I met up with some TrekBBSers too.

Quarks is not to be missed. It really looked like Quark's bar! And don't forget to indulge in the "warp core breach". Consuming it made for my best flight ever. Why? I fell asleep on the plane! And I've never been able to sleep on planes.

**wonders if she can give the recipe to various airlines. Would gladly pay for one of those babies on a long trip to Europe.**

The Experience was well worth the visit and effort I had to do to get there.

I've enjoyed all of my multiple visits to the Experience. I've done the backstage tour (twice), and had my picture taken on the bridge and in the Borg chamber, the works. I'm hoping to get out there again at least once more during 2008.

Yeah, I did the picture in Picard's chair bit.

But I'd have paid double had it been KIRK's bridge and chair! :rommie:

I had fun at the Experience last year, but parts of it are seriously dated/falling apart. The whole 3D part with the Borg Queen, mostly. The 3D effect was negligible, the screen was dim and the sound was bad, and it was a bit dorky seeing Voyager characters like the Doctor.

I think I read it's getting an upgrade soon? I hope so!

Any upgrades and the like are contingent on whether or not the various PTB (see above) feel the place is a viable financial asset. Let them know you think it is.

Where else are you going to get your Warp Core Breaches and play with Klingons?

Oh, and T'Bonz. Kralk wants to say something.

Kralk here. I thought I smelled tarnishing copper around the station last time I was there. Qu'vatlh, now we'll have to fumigate. Kralk out.

Sorry about, T'Bonz. You know how he feels about Romulans.

Hope to see some of you on the 4th.

I love it! I first went about a year after it opened, a couple of times after that, and then every year that the Creation convention has been there. Here's looking forward to ten more years!

Interesting. The Cedar Point folks run it. I worked for Cedar Point in my college days.

I might go, but only to challenge that P'taq Kralk to hand-to-hand combat!! Our houses have been enemies for 8 generations!

Indeed, ToDSaH, although yours must be a less honorable house. Why else hide behind a title? "Eminence". Qu'vatlh. The only thing "eminating" from this post is cowardice. Ha_Ha-ha-ha-ha!

Kralk out.

:D I was just there last month~ And it was the first time I had gone on the rides despite living in Vegas. I'll have to make sure and stop by on the 4th.
