Star Trek: The Doomsday Machine - Teaser Online June 12

Thanks... but really, you should give the remastered episodes a chance. The CGI work was a bit spotty in some episodes but really quite good (especially considering the time crunch they were under) as the project progressed... kind of like my own slowly improving quality as I keep progressing (and redoing things). :D

Really terrific, Prof. It has a kind of TOS / ILM feel to it. That discovery shot of the Constellation is breathtaking.

I love the ship coming head-on at the camera in the titles. That's something I always wanted to see on the show.

I must admit that there's something no fan film has gotten right, and that's the ship whooshing out of the distance as the credits appear. I know the ship crabs somewhat on the original titles, but whoever did that shot knew what they were doing, because the ship ends up blasting by in a 3/4 profile that just looks FAST. When the ship flies in straight lines at the camera (your awesome head-on shot notwithstanding) it never feels as fast because so much of the ship is thin from the front and back angles and you don't get the sense of the mass blasting by. It's one thing the guys in '64 haven't been topped at. :)

I understand what you're saying DS9. I thought of all of them I've seen (and I've seen some) Prof got it right.

The original had the lens zoomed WAY out (whatever the real term is - the ship looked a lot farther away than it was and stretched out when it got close). They also slid the shot across the frame (which is what gives the shot its crab) so it's actually partially a 2D gag.

PM skipped the 2D part, but I really think he managed the "whoosh!" IMHO of course.

I've been following this project since it first began years ago, and this is by far the best footage to date. :bolian: Well done, Prof. Can't wait to see your Doomsday Machine in action.

Excellent work, Scott. Nice to see you're still plugging away at it. Kirk's cross in front of the view screen was pretty damn close to perfect. I did a frame-by-frame to examine what must have been a painstaking process, since there was no clean green to begin with. Again, a job very well done.

Thanks :) Fortunately my video composition and visual F/X software (Adobe After Effects) has a pretty good set of rotoscoping tools. Still, it was not an easy process... and I sure don't look forward to having to do it again for Shatner and Nimoy at the end of the episode!

I guess doing them both will be quite the PITA...

Sorry... I had to :D ;)

^Looks awesome. I like the little touches on the Connie, like the flashing shards of light coming from the shattered bridge dome and the bits of flare from the 2nd pilot version of the Enterprise. Moreover, I can't wait to see the details on the Planet Killer in Act II. It looks like a devil outta hell, sharp demon teeth on the maw, ready to devour whole planets and shred starships.

Pretty cool, all in all! I really liked some of the camera angles on the Enterprise...particularly the down-shot on the saucer as the ship passes under, and the tilt up to the Constellation. Neato.

The Planet Killer design itself, though, I'm not hot on: reminds me too much of the endless Giger-inspired things I encountered in my years in the videogame biz, but I'm sure many other will like it.

I'll know better what I think of the PK when we get a better look at it - at this "distance" the resolution is such that I think the "CG-ness" of some basic elements, like the energy effect, is overemphasized.

All in all, this is my favorite "remastering" of this episode of the several that have been done in one form or another - including CBS's.

You know this episode was the first one that anyone tried to do with Lightwave that I know of - an outfit called "Digital Stream" did a pretty primitive version back in 1996.

I'm having problems downloading Act 1. It keeps timing out on me. I think it's because of the file size and my Internet speed can't handle it. Could you offer just Act 1 for download and not both the Teaser and Act 1 together?
