Star Trek: The Beginning

This may be in the wrong forum - if so, please move :)

A while back there had been talk of a new Star Trek movie after Nemesis entitled, Star Trek: The Beginning. It was written by Erik Jendresen (Link) http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Star_Trek:_The_Beginning

After reading the synopsis of the movie, who do you all think they would have/could have casted as "Tiberius Chase"?

Oh I don't know, I think it sounds quite good, even if the links to Kirk are somewhat dodgy. It does, however, sound very uncommercial - if you weren't a Trek fan, why would you care, and if you were a Trek fan, would you care about characters you'd never seen before? - and also seems to end an act too early.

Would be interesting to read the script, but in the end Paramount's decision appears, from that brief synopsis, to have been the right one.

I like it and think it could've been better than the JJ version if done properly. Like the idea of how the Romulan War could've happened and what there agenda was, a better explanation than some of the others I've heard.

I've always wanted to know what John Logans idea was for the follow up to Nemesis. Before the"Star Trek the Beginning" script started development I've read interviews where Logan says he had a story already set up for a TNG follow up to Nemesis but I've never been able to find any hint of what the story would have been.

The crew are shocked to discover that the Cardassians have secretly cloned Geordi and he now plans to take over the universe. En route to stopping him, the crew receive a distress call and rescue Tom Riker from a group of, I dunno, sand people or something using a speedboat.

The second half of the film consists of a big starship battle before the final ten minutes seem suspiciously familiar as B4 is released into the wild and communicates with the Cardassians in their native language and they decide not to conquer the universe, and everyone is pleased. In a speedboat.

Although, in all seriousness, I would be fascinated to know what he had in mind, if only to see what he and Spiner had planned for B4...

Not just a speedboat. Knightboat!!!

Details of the film's story were revealed in a write-up of Jendressen's script by Ain't It Cool News (AICN) in October 2007.

Which means its total fake bullshit.

And even if it was true, it's only the very first draft, so a lot would have changed.

I'm so glad Berman was removed from the franchise after ENT and Nemesis. Took them long enough! The prequel idea was OK, though totally uncommercial. Only the fans would have seen it. It wouldn't have even had Patrick Stewart and 'that gold guy' in it, for the mainstream.

With some tweaking I think this could work as an ENT telefilm but I don't think it would've worked as well as a film. I think its a bit too much of a departure.

Though I wish some of these ideas like the United Earth Intersellar Navy had found their way into Enterprise.

I would have been interested in it. However, I admit, if it did do well, it probably wouldn't have been as much of a hit as Trek XI was.

I think I heard there is a copy of the script out there. Maybe someone might do a script exchange for it?

It was an origin story for the Characters of Kirk and Spock. This story was the Origin for The Federation.
