Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

The dimensions for the Titan coming in November and Stargazer in December.

The 1701-F will be XL sized.

The Odyssey Class is a beautiful ship, glad it's getting the XL treatment. And from that render, it looks good so far. Love that the Enterprise G getting an XL is a plus! Thank you FanHome!

Hate to sit this one out but I just have no room!! I was with the Eaglemoss collection almost to the end but quickly was running out of room... and those were the small ships! Not to mention the specials and XLs. With these at the larger size I'll just put my money towards the TOMY hero ships as they (slowly) come out. Eaglemoss was around $20 USD a ship which I felt justified the price to quality ratio. Not sure quality will increase with the size/price since it appears that the original designers* and manufacturing plants** will be the same. Not going with these more expensive Fanhome ships will enable me to afford those TOMY ships.

*Caveat: I thought Ben Johnson did a (mostly) great job within the limitations he was given and loved collecting his ships. The glaring exception being the XL Enterprise Refit .

**Definitely had issues with the paint job... especially the windows!

I'm not going to do a sub like this ever again. I did that with EM to get a discount on shipping, but the model releases for subscribers were always several months behind main store availability, even after they opened up shipping centers across the pond state-side. That just simply decreased individual package shipping time, nothing more. Worse, I wound up missing a bunch of models towards the end of EM's life and wound up spending extra on eBay to get those missing pieces at exaggerated rates (still haven't gotten them all and they're even higher in price now, if they're even available any more). This effectively zeroed-out any potential savings I may have accrued from a subscription. Zero sum game.

You know I had similar issues with Eaglemoss. I went ahead and decided to chance a subscription this time and so far am a little more hopeful. I actually have an account page with Fanhome that tells me my next model, a profile for address, etc.

Basic stuff but Eaglemoss was missing this. Now my problem is between these, the Eaglemoss models and EXO 6 figures, where do I display it all….. my wife will only let me have one room lol.

Huh…. That is an improvement over the previous EM business model. Communication was one of their biggest blind spots. They never let anyone know that bad shit was happening until the situation was in the process of crashing down around them, usually opening up new warehouses and data centers, horribly impacting their logistics and business rhythms and everyone screaming, “What the hell is going on?” That continued through and past The End with everything finally falling apart for the last time. I do hope FH learned from those mistakes.

A display solution I copied from another TrekBBS poster - sorry, forgot who! - is to cycle your display. Show off 1-3 ships for two weeks, then pack them away and display 3 others. That way, you can also put out ‘thematic ship’, eg FC ships in April, Cerritos when Lower Decks is on, etc.

I hope the packaging is more compact and consistently-sized than the Eaglemoss Universe collection boxes, which seemed to have a lot of internal space taken up by foam. The original 180 issues were fairly easy to store in totes. The mid-sized boxes were a pain because of the space they took up as well as the different sizes making them difficult to stack neatly.

That really brings home what a mistake the larger ship sizes are for me (other than the XLs, which has a different purpose). The only thing I would change from the original EM box size is to let it be deeper when needed.

I am really tempted the subscribe to get the first few, then cancel. However I’d like to know that whichever carrier they use to deliver in the UK (be it RM, DPD, etc) will have a “collect from a pick up point” option.

I’ve had issues in the past with couriers claiming they’ve delivered stuff to my address when at work, only to find..nothing.

I can almost guarantee an exclusive XL Titan at some point, and a regular E-G. Maybe short run convention exclusives to reality annoy collectors.
Kinda disappointed that Fanhome is going to make the Titan-A regular size, but the Enterprise-G an XL. I mean, it's the same ship with just different hull lettering...
I presume the point of making them different sizes is for Fanhome to avoid complaints about selling the same model twice. Especially because they represent the very same ship, physically.

Yeah, this way they get to sell the same models again to those who want them, without forcing subscribers to buy repeats if they don't want them. It's perfectly understandable.
