Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Firstly, it just looks more...toy like. The paint app is different to the standard size and although it still looks crisp and nice...the character of the model feels different on the desk. Its really hard to describe but it sticks out to me.

Secondly, and the thing that annoys me...the deflector/nose on mine is totally loose and just flops about. When paying this kind of money I want decent quality and I'm happy to pay it, so long as we get solid build and no faults.

I luckily didn’t have a fault on my xl defiant. Although I’ve had major faults on 2 previous XL ships. However, I have to agree there is completely something toy like about the ship. I put it next to all the other XLs and it just doesn’t look quite right. Although, like you, I’m not sure I can put my finger on it. Maybe it’s looks a little cheap comparatively? Ahhh I’m not sure

I'm definitely reaching the end of what I'll buy from Eaglemoss now. Not that there aren't more ships I still want, but the errors and sloppiness have me ready to finally give up. At the price point the XL ships are at, some of these glitches are unacceptable. So I'll look for something else Trek to spend my money on. :)
on the one hand, i appreciate how quickly they're pumping the XL ships out. on the other, i'd be ok if they slowed down and focused on quality and accuracy. the discovery line is a great example of the kind of detail eaglemoss is capable of (even if it's not a great example of quality control). the XLs truly are about as exciting as inflated regular editions. the best regular edition model (in my opinion) is the NX-01 and it's also the best XL edition.

that being said the XL reliant looks great (if unappealing to me). and with the pace that they're producing these things, they're bound to have another winner soon. right?...

I don't have the space to collect the main collection, but I was interested in a small number of larger, quality ships. I did get DS9 and the XL TOS-E, which is pretty nice on the whole. But there's just been too many little errors or inconsistencies, or sloppy finishing on them which has held me back. I wanted to get the Enterprise-D and the Enterprise-A, but both haven't been quite right.

I just feel for the price they're charging, the quality control should reflect that it's more of a premium product and there shouldn't be these issues.

That said, Voyager and Defiant both look nice, as does the upcoming Reliant. But what good is a nice Reliant without an Enterprise to blast to pieces? :rommie:

so apparently the USS vengeance-like/inaccurate paint scheme we saw in the first photos of the kobayashi maru is final (there was a more accurate, but less attractive version floating around after the fact):

you can pre-order it in the UK.

i still think it's an attractive ship. just maybe the most fudged model we've ever seen from eaglemoss. it also might be the first kelvin timeline special i'm considering passing on.

Thanks for sharing!

When the first image was released, I excited by how lush the model looks. Then I learned how inaccurate it is (re: saucer lettering, dorsal secondary hull). Because of my initial reaction, I’ll still get it because it looks cool.

I got an email last night that my Discovery Issue #4 Klingon Bird of Prey had shipped along with a binder.

About 15 minutes later, I got another email that there was a problem with my credit card which was weird because the order had shipped & I could see the charge already pending on the card.

So I called Eaglemoss this morning & the rep stated that the email about the credit card was sent in error to every Discovery Subscriber. (I'm assuming this meant US subscribers)

I wonder if it’s more just how the Defiant was designed. The Enterprises are spindly things so the hulls/engines still aren’t overtly large in XL scale so the amount of detail still looks good, while the Defiant is kind of a fat frisbee, which maybe blown up to XL size needed additional details or something to keep it from being toy-like.

Yep I got the exact same thing happen to me. Also called Eaglemoss and yes, it was an error. All good! :)

For anyone else that got the XL Ent-A, did you get a magazine? Not that I’m anxious to get one for it. But it just occurred to me that it was supposed to come with one but didn’t.

The site says it may ship separate from the model but it hasn’t shown up for me yet.

That's been a frequent occurrence, getting the model without the magazine. They always send it later if that happens. No worries.

With the big round head and the muscular dad-bod physique, Tardi would make a great plush animal for cuddling.

Honestly, I could do without the tardigrade extra. Maybe a complete set of all the insignia used in the show instead, including MU insignia and decorations. Make them half-scale or something to save money during production. It is what it is, I guess.

Argh! My local store for all things eaglemoss Star Trek advised me they can’t bring in the Ent-C Probot concept starship! I was really looking forward to that one, but turns out it’s not available here in NZ.

Others will become available from time to time, so will keep my eyes peeled in the meantime...

It's a neat ship. If you're impatient and can afford it, eBay's always an option. I've gotten a large portion of my ships through that.

so this probably falls under the "same shit, different day" category but i had previously said my discovery bird-of-prey had shipped, but checking the email again i was mistaken and it was the battlestar galactica. spoke to CS this afternoon and they told me that my particular bird-of-prey (subscription, not preorder) won't be shipping until the size comparison posters are in stock on august 26.

anyone else in the US have this happen? i don't know why i continue to be surprised by delays with this collection, but here we are.
