I made a schematic of it when photos of the original model came out a few years back. It is one fugly starship. BEHOLD! The Merced-class Cruiser!

Yes, the main body is Miranda, with Galaxy nacelles and a bunch of Runabout parts. All following in the same tradition of casting scale to the ether. No idea where the ion cannons or rocket tanks came from. The cone-shaped caps look like they were taken from the electrodes of those small 12V box batteries you put in large flashlights.

I love kitbashes but this is awful because of the nacelles’ position. If they were further back or attached ventral...maybe.

Indeed I did! I can't take all the credit, though. Most of the parts were pulled from the late, great, Neil "Vance" Davidson's toolkits, along with Galaxy and Runabout schematics. I added the cannons, caps and rear tanks. Here are photos provided by Dan Curry of the original model (released back in 2013) that I used for reference:

Heh...I just now realized that those forward-facing shuttlebays are upside-down Voyager shuttlebay door/bulkhead pieces.

One wonders what weird stuff they stuck to the bottom.

It was definitely intended to be on-screen in DS9, with the neon windows and nacelle grilles.

Gotta wonder, though, if it was meant to be in the tachyon fleet in TNG's "Redemption Part II". That's where it was specifically seen on-screen on that little map of ships comprising the fleet.

Edit: Disregard above - the Memory Alpha page on the ship does specifically say Dan Curry built it for DS9.

The nacelles are only florescent pink (and the windows neon green) so they stood out and could be digitally recoloured after shooting. It was a pretty cool and much quicker/cheaper way of "lighting" models than actually putting lights into the models as had to be done previously. Sadly, CG came along pretty much immediately after so I'm pretty sure it's only the USS Centaur and Frankenfleet that use this technique.

Yeah, I suspect that if Ben's team does actually do the Trieste (and I'm pretty damn sure they never will! ) it will use a more idealized screen-friendly color palette. The original Centaur/Buckner model also had a similar fluorescent paint job for the same purpose and they used a normal palette for the Eaglemoss version. In fact, they changed the structure of the model considerably and up-scaled it so the primary hull is true Excelsior-sized. Goes against my purist POV towards accurate model-making, but life's full of disappointments.

Any US subscribers been charged yet this month for their issues ? This month should be 118/119 for me.

I usually get charged around the 26th or 27th but nothing yet. Don’t know if I should be concerned yet but I skipped my Franklin special & I’m concerned they also skipped my regular issues.

Yep I got a $60 charge for something (either the XL Voyager or K-7) and $39.90 for the two regular issues. No new DISCO ships for a while.

Update: Just got the email notifications. The $60 is definitely is the XL-Voyager and...good grief...they've finally gotten around to sending me the missing Vahklas and Enterprise-J! Missing since last year and already replaced by me as individual purchases from the online store because I got tired of waiting. Oh well, eBay here I go again!

yeah that approach didn't exactly hold up with them when issue 1 featured an "idealized" paint scheme for the enterprise-D rather than the true, duck egg blue of the studio model.

If Eaglemoss is filling in the Starfleet ships, then why haven't done the other ship types seen in the JJ-verse? I have heard they might be doing the Kobayashi Maru-type. What about the Armstrong-type, the Newton-type, the Mayflower-type, and the Salcombe-type?

Memory Alpha has the Kobayashi Maru as a potential special at some point. The thing to remember is that Eaglemoss is contracted with Paramount to make all Kelvinverse ships in the larger scale. They may not think those other ships (basically background window dressing) are not worth the investment to make with potentially less return than the more prevalent hero ships. The only reason the Kobayashi Maru is being considered is its popularity and prior use in TWOK, and the notion that its name has made it into popular culture colloquialisms as a metaphor for no-win scenarios.

For what it's worth, I'd get all them all regardless of any scale they make them in and I know there are many who would too. If the obscure DISCO ships are successful in the same larger scale, there may be some market incentive to make the lesser-used Kelvinverse ships.

I don't know, Alec Peters thought there was money to be made selling models of Kelvin timeline background ships. Pretty sure his finances are all over the internet if Eaglemoss want to guess how much they might make

it's a shame they couldn't do a run of special-sized kelvin timeline ships a la discovery because there's a bunch we're just never going to see, especially if the series ends with star trek beyond.

as happy as i am about getting the klingon warbird, there are so many other great kelvin timeline ships i'd love see take up real estate in the collection, including the ones @Lakenheath 72 mentioned. though i guess if CBS and paramount do re-merge, eaglemoss' license may expand to include the kelvin timeline in any size they choose.

still holding out hope that ben sticks to his guns and the next shuttle set is a kelvin timeline shuttles set. the military shuttle and the takayami-type shuttle are too good to go undisplayed on my desk.

So I called Eaglemoss this morning & the rep stated she could see my monthly order pending but it hadn’t been charged/shipped yet because of a system upgrade on their side causing issues. She stated they were working to resolve & it would process once that was resolved.
