Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

so uhhh... i think the whole “most technically proficient” thing was an april fools joke.
You can vote for a cloaked B’rel class, though. With sufficient ones, one might be released. Probably akin to the clear plastic ones from Johnny Select and WizKids.

Taking part in the vote reveals the 20% discount NOJOKE, only valid on April 01. Unfortunately, the Enterprise-XL-A is due April 02.

A new bundle is Alien Ships: K’t’inga, B’rel, Borg sphere.

Shame the Discovery is out of stock though

That is one ugly ship. And yet I want it soooo bad.

I had a little money, and I was kinda bored today, so I headed over to my shop and got a ship. Since money's a premium, I got the cheapest model there, which was the Vidiian ship.

I have 66 ships as of today (67, if you count an extra Enterprise-D, which I generally don't), but surprisingly, this is my first Voyager alien ship. Okay, technically, that would be the Dauntless, but that was meant to look like a Starfleet ship. I don't have many Voyager ships, and the only ones I have (Voyager, Maquis ship, Equinox, Rhode Island) are all Fed.

I'm not sure they got the color on this one quiet right. Most of the pictures in the magazine (including the studio model) show a deep, rusty red, but the model is very much an orange color. Unfortunately, the seam lines on the bottom aren't as well hidden as they could be either.

The magazine says to clip the stand on the back struts, but I think that's a mistake, because they're too thin to get a snug fit. It fits on the front struts much better, but then you get too much of the model hanging out the back and empty space over the base. My solution was to flip the base so the stand connects at the front (like with the Romulan drone model).

Not their best work, but I'm happy to have it.

the beyond enterprise has arrived on my (dusty) desk, plus some paint touchups:

Nice pics. I am not a fan of the Kelvin Universe Enterprise but this is the best of a bad bunch.
Theres a lot of nice detail here I didn't notice in the movie. What's that hole below the nacelle cap supposed to be?

no clue. it's present on the 09 and into darkness enterprise as well, but the first eaglemoss model is a little rough in that area.

it's interesting having this sit briefly next to my discovery model. seeing the quality of the sculpt and paint jobs between to the two makes clear why the discovery line is more expensive than the regular line of specials.

The Beyond Enterprise looks much better as a physical object than it does as orthos and still images. I guess the lines flow a bit better when you can see it in three-dimensions.

It doesn’t help that the Beyond Enterprise has no paint applications between and on top of the struts. It’s a little too plain in that area.

it also looks less different from the original design. not that there was a huge difference to begin with, but looking at it from certain angles in person, it's hard to tell it's not identical to the 09/STID ship.

Slightly off topic, but I got the QMx Enterprise-D Mini Masters.
I loved the Franklin that came with the Blu-Ray set. The painting on both is solid and the surface is smooth in a clean way.

Compared to the Eaglemoss versions, the QMx version is much less detailed, but it it’s smoothness make it ‘classier’ than toy counterparts.

She is a beauty.

Did they reuse the enterprise saucer from the previous special they released?

I was just curious if it was screen accurate or if they just took the mold for the saucer section from the previous 2009 enterprise model they released and slapped it on a new stardrive section.

neither. weirdly.

it is an entirely new sculpt except for the deflector dish. sadly the saucer is still missing the 3 lines that should run around the edge. and they messed up and gave her the same three phaserbank placements as the 09/into darkness model where the beyond model should have four.

but there are about a dozen improvements over the original kelvin timeline model in the sculpt and paint application. my original model from what? 2013? was really poorly constructed and this new one is solid. the beyond model is a huge step up.
