What do people think of this Phase II Enterprise design? Found it on Trek collective, not sure how official the cover is but I would much rather have the bussards be blue as seen in posters of the ship. I'll accept red though if that was Matt Jefferies original intention.
Already ordered mine. I love it as an "Enterprise that could have been," a hybrid between the original and TMP refit. The warp nacelle pylons, though, are slightly different from those of the latter. They match old line-art schematics of this design that feature them slightly notched where they connect to the actual nacelles.

It’s the same cover with the Memory Alpha article so it must be authentic. The Phase II Enterprise is one of my favorite designs so for me it’s a no-brainer. I’ve already pre-ordered mine from the Previews order book from my local comic shop.

Because the project was scrapped before the model being painted I don’t know what was the original intention. Over the years I’ve seen many designs with both red/blue bussards and bronze/blue deflectors and personally I prefer the red bussards and the bronze deflector that Eaglemoss has chosen. It fits the TOS 2.0 aesthetic that Phase II seemed to have.

For US customers, Eaglemoss just published a new promo code: EXTRATREAT for 20% off all orders over $70 (not including Pre-Order items, of course).

IMO it doesn't really work with the red bussards. I also don't like that they chose to give the hull the same colour as the TOS Enterprise. IMO it should be much closer to the TMP-one, like in the paintings from back then:

I also think there should be a dish, and that it should be blue. Most akin to what JJ Abrams did in his reboot.

I tend to agree. A blue dish and bussards work better with this design and seem a better fit for something post TOS.

I see what you mean... Maybe it's the hull color that makes it work. The overall hull already has a bronze tint to it. Red bussards may overdo the "warm" palette too much. :shrug:Dunno...

Blue dish/bussards and TMP hull colors/decals make it almost indistinguishable from the Refit Enterprise though.
Hehe and I feel it's too close to the TOS Enterprise with the unchanged dish color and red bussards.
I think that since the dish is raised it distinguishes itself quite nicely. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4136/4766559322_c09fe236d1_b.jpg

A compromise between the two might be better. Regular dish color, blue bussards, maybe a greyer hull.

It's funny how the underside of the primary hull on the Phase II E had those exact same three little dimples that the AMT TOS-E model kit had since the 60's. After all these years, I still have no idea what those silly things were supposed to be.

You mean at the front of the saucer? Some call them the saucer's deflectors (to be used in the event of separation from the secondary hull).

No. These things, which somehow made their way to the Phase II :

They appeared on every version of the first AMT TOS-E since the 60's:

They also appeared on the smaller 3-ship version:

IIRC, I believe they were finally removed for the larger "cutaway" Enterprise and they definitely were not present for the big 1:350 version, which was the most accurate to the 11-footer. They were never on either the 11-foot (in any of its three states) or the 3-foot filming miniatures and I have no idea what they're supposed to represent.

I ordered the 1701 refit online and when I took it out of he box the saucer and nacelles were seperate from the secondary hull. The saucer kinda stays in play once it's in the stand but the nacelles do not. Did this arrive busted or is it supposed to be in three pieces?

Definitely not supposed to be in pieces. It happens sometimes. Some people call Eaglemoss up to get a new one. I just whip out the ol' Krazy Glue and done in 30 seconds.

I didn't get them from Eaglemoss, they don't sell in Canada. I'll contact the reseller. Thanks.

Edit:. I ordered a few more from them, I hope they don't all come broken.

Side note:
According to Memory Alpha, the refit NX-01 (183mm) and the XL NX-01 (220mm) aren’t of the same scale. The XL edition is about 1:1023.
For those who have it and/or care, the Polar Lights model is also 1:1000, so if you got both models they’re almost the same size.

Thanks for the link. I remembering seeing it a while back. I actually like the milder color tones of David Shaw compared to the eaglemoss cover. What's up with the saucer though? Looks unfinished.

I also imagined they were phaser banks. Since the design shows a photon torpedo launcher for the first time I would guess they wanted to show where the phasers come from too. No idea about the AMT model.

Since it never actually appeared on screen, none of us know what it really would have looked like. The best thing we have is concept art, and that has a pretty distinguished cold, blue hue.

This David Shaw variant, however well researched it might me, is still simply a fan-revamp. He might like the TOS color-palette more, or even think the final product might have looked closer to it because of their use of materials, and I can see certain merits to his design variant. It doesn't change the fact that this is farther removed from what actually exists.

I'm absolutely 100% in favour of people re-painting and adjusting their models to their personal liking. That is craft-y as hell, and his ship looks good! This guy is talented as fuck. But if I were to buy a mass produced product, I think it should be the closest to the real thing possible. In this case: A color palette closer to the TMP version.

Dayum, that is pretty much spot-on!
