Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Even in this tiny, dark screenshot you can pick out the panelling. The Futura model managed to include this yet the EM one doesn't even have it painted on.

Again, this is likely an early prototype that they're showing, so what we actually get may be different than what we're seeing here. Also, there's a substantial difference in the lighting between those two photos. The Eaglemoss model is evenly and brightly light, whereas the Futura is more dynamically lit, which highlights the detailing.

I have the the Futura and that lighting is not doing any favours for the detailing. The panels are etched in very clearly. The Eaglemoss one comes out in 2 months time and they've showed prototypes of models that are 6 months or more out. I hope it isn't, but by all likelihood the Runabout is final or near final.

That version of the EM Runabout at least does not have panelling on the forward hull, and is missing the finer panels in the mission pod and warp pylons. I hope its sorted out by release, but its the latest model we've seen this close to its release for quite some time. People have been asking about the Runabout for ages for it to fall on deaf ears. I really hope it comes out OK, but if it looks like it does in those photos I will not be a happy customer.

(1) For those of you who mentioned customer service problems with your orders through Eaglemoss, have you seen improvement lately?

Yes, absolutely. They are now communicating with the customers, notifying them of shipping and possible delays. They're also very quick to respond to emails and resolve any issues you may have.

(3) I am of the understanding that ten (or twelve) orders through them gets me the AGT Ent-D...but do the orders have to be through subscription, and sequentially, in order to get that ship? Hitherto now, I have been ordering about every other one, skipping ones I don't like or want, and if I have to get a subscription and get ones I don't like, well, I'll pass and just look for it on eBay at some point. Or is there a method in place to skip unwanted issues but still get the premium ship?

(4) Ordering through my local comic shop, I received the Enterprise-E two weeks ago and should find the Nebula waiting for me later today when I go in. For those of you on subscription, what ship are you up to by now? Do you get releases faster ordering through Eaglemoss directly?

That's a tricky question. The releases are different for different countries (UK started shipping before the US, etc.). In the US, subscribers from the beginning just received (or will soon be receiving) the Nebula and Xindi Insectoid ships. I would imagine that subscribers get preference over individual orders through Eaglemoss.

(5) I am of the understanding that there is a Constitution-refit (i.e. 1701-A) due out in a few months, but do we know if they'll fix the warp nacelle problem? The first one (that came out in the first 5 issues or so) had blue Bussard collector strips all up the front and forward top of the nacelles and (IMHO) took away from the looks of the ship. I'd have to dig my Reliant out and see if it had the same thing on its nacelles, but I don't remember that it did, nor did the recent Stargazer.

It's been mentioned before that the Refit Enterprise was kind of their prototype ship, after they received the initial run they were disappointed so they found a new manufacturer, which was used for the subsequent models. The E-A will be a retooled version of the refit and will be made by the regular manufacturer, so the quality should be much better.

Thanks for the info and tips, Trekker670.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you have to be a full subscriber for the AGT 1701-D, and I don't think back-orders count.

If you don't want every issue, but do want the AGT 1701-D, I think you'll probably have to go the eBay route.

Yes, the All Good Things Enterprise-D is a subscriber perk. If you are subscribed, it is completely free with the 12th shipment (It was the 10th shipment, but there were problems). And I'm pretty sure you need to have the subscription run its course up to the 12th shipment. Meaning that you can't cancel beforehand and still get the ship. If you aren't subscribed, your best bet is eBay.

Thanks for the info, folks. Think I'll go the eBay route.

The one you called the Futura version is actually the Revell model kit.

This is the Furuta...

It does have more pronounced paneling though, not arguing that at all. I think I prefer the sleeker dimensions of the Eaglemoss, loathe as I am to side with them on this one. Let's hope a lot of the missing detailing will be there on the finished piece. :)

It's such an obvious oversight, i can't imagine that that is the final design this late in the game. Though i have to admit i didn't realise the lack of detail until it was pointed out, from an aesthetics point of view i think EM looks better but i would prefer the extra detail as it's more accurate.

I like that the Runabout is going to have the roll bar. The micromachine, furuta, or Hallmark ornament never did. So this'll be nice to have one that does.

The old model kit back in the 90s had the roll bar as optional, but I doubt many of us have that. I do somewhere... lol.

I just got one of these, mainly out of curiosity. I picked up the Stargazer and, I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed. The model's proportions are not real good, the surface details are soft and inaccurate, and the paint scheme doesn't seem to be based on anything in particular.

Though, the magazine that came with it is kinda cool, but the $20 asking price is steep for a pretty cool magazine attached to a worthless crap model. If there was a way to get the paper but without the lackluster toy, I probably would do so.

Unfortunately, you probably got one of the ones that should be least used to judge the whole line. There have been many models before and since that one that are of a far better quality. And, to be fair, it's not really the model's fault. The CG version of the Stargazer was considerably less detailed than the studio filming miniature and out of proportion. Check out the Akira, K't'inga, Galor or Reliant. I think they're better gauges for the quality of the series.

I only just started collecting with the first issues i received being 10 (borg sphere) and 11 (the reliant). Issues 1 to 9 i got on ebay and the best I'd have to say so far are the nx, E-D, romulan warbird and the klingon BoP. Really looking forward to the Akira and the krenim timeship.

The Akira is fantastic! One of my favorite models so far. And the Krenim Timeship is one of the ones I was looking forward to the most since this collection was announced. For a species that only appeared in two episodes, they really knocked it out of the park with the design of the Timeship. The model is awesome!

Received my DS9 special today and I'm a bit... underwhelmed by it. I guess I was expecting it to be larger considering it's price was double that of a regular issue. I also am disappointed it didn't come with any kind of stand. That really seems to be a major negative as every other model has one and I was usually impressed by the heavy & sturdy stands.

The next two specials I'm not particularly looking forward to as one who isn't a fan of nuTrek. However, the compulsive completest in me won't allow any models to not grace my shelf... :(

Wow, my bad. I have the Futura one though I put it up in the loft with the rest of those Japan/Johnny Lightning models when I started getting the Eaglemoss ships. Could have sworn thats how it looked.
