Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

They also had the “special” size, which was slightly smaller than the XL’s. The DS9 special/XL releases made no sense. There was zero difference in detailing and the size differential was negligible. One was enough. I think there was also a special/XL NX-01 with a similar issue.

The XL TOS Enterprise is a fantastic piece. I have a few small issues with the smaller “regular sized” version though, like the deflector dish not being separated enough from the body of the ship.

MR let it slip that they are doing a “ship giveaway” on Star Trek Day this year. Didn’t say what ship it was but that it could cost them around 20,000$.

my guess for todays special giveaway is a free, one time use, free shipping code.

I have the first DS9, but I did think the XL looked significantly better in terms of paint apps and detailing. And you got a stand too! The first version just sits on the lower pylons which means they gradually warp inwards.

Wasn’t quite enough to tempt me to drop another £50 though.

I just got the email: 15% off an order in July

cool. I havent gotten mine yet. It will be interesting to see if people hold onto that code for the Cerritos that’s coming at the end of the month. Entering that code may slow people down and allow some to get poached.

Eaglemoss had two sizes “regular” and “XL” of the TOS ship. Both are among their better offerings, although, like a lot of Eaglemoss models, with the XL version some (most?) examples have issues matching the window paint applications to the indentations in the mold.

I hear it's especially egregious with the Enterprise-D. Shame.

I've been tempted to get any version of the station, but space is sorely lacking. I did get the K-7 station and that will have to do for outpost love.

Hmm. This ship is conspicuously absent from my collection, and it should have been the first one I got!

A ship giveaway! Wow! A finely detailed TOS 1701 would be sublime!:techman:

Ooh! :luvlove:

Still haven't gotten the email.

Me neither.

Get the Chief to look into that...

Darn poachers!

Of the ones I have, I think the worst one was the Cerritos, which was disappointing.

What’s particularly odd is that with maybe only one or two exceptions, the other paint applications are usually quite good. I think I only have one where the registry is slightly crooked. I don’t know why they had such difficulty with the windows. To add insult to injury, at the scales at which they were working most of the time the ship would have looked just fine with just a paint app for the windows, there was really no reason to have indentations on the mold.

I picked up Valiant today, before the flash drop started I added the Colonial Raptor to offset some of the shipping cost. I didn’t use my discount code because I didn’t want to get hosed on Valiant going out of stock while futzing around trying to enter it.

I nabbed a Valiant too! Very happy. Forgot to use the discount they emailed out just beforehand though, but I'm sure there'll be something else I can use it on.

I got the Shenzhou a while back. It evokes the memory of the Reliant.

I offer these pictures of the source material:

The first starship we were treated to in Discovery. And it is a treat!

The build of the ship seems fairly faithful, and the die-cast saucer is always the solid core of these models. I am most happy with mine! :luvlove:

I gave a friend a spare USS Reliant XL model I had lying around.
This brought my attention back to the glaring issue it has - the invisible-from-a-distance name decal on the dorsal hull.

We discussed several methods of how to fix that - use varnish to remove the decal and replace it with bobmat343's, or painting it over with a gray color. The risk with varnish is damaging the Aztec pattern.

Has anyone fixed it before? Could I just plaster bobmat343's decal over it?
