Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

My K'TINGA and E-E came in from Chapters. These are the first I've gotten magazines with, they're nice little booklets. Here's my collection of ships, not as big as most of yours and a blend of all sorts of different companies.

speaking of those klingon devils, hero collector has more photos of the warbird/battlecruiser/whatever:

Among the pics you can see the giant Starfleet delta on the underside that breaks off during the KM test in ST'09.

Discovery came today. The model actually makes me like the ship more though I wish the name/registry were darker on the saucer. Whatever color white they used for the font really washes out in any light. I don’t trust that I have a steady enough hand to use any sort of paint pen, etc to make it darker. Also, anyone know what the blue sections are supposed to be on the secondary hull to either side of the deflector ?

In regards to the regular subscription I was moving my Curry around and barely touched one the nacelles which promptly fell off. Nothing a little model glue won’t fix but annoying nonetheless.

Supercharged, Polarized Blueglownium/Antiblueglownium deflector emitters for the McGuffin Assembly

I broke mine off deliberately so as to reattach them straight.

Bozeman, Xhosa and beyond ent turned up today. Bozeman is great- really a lot of detail on it. A bit disappointed to learn that all the things that look like weapons are just extra sensors. I might pretend they’re weapons. Xhosa is fine- not exactly the most interesting ship but she does look like a workhorse. Finally the ent from beyond. I never really noticed that it was different from the 2009 Enterprise when watching the films. Having said that it is a much nicer looking ship- far more sleek. Now just waiting on discovery

I thought the same. Glad I’m not the only one.

Wonder how warp engines work on the Xhosa?

I think the notion that those turrets were weapons came from Jackill's data sheets. It wasn't until much later when people started calling them sensors, probably when the novel "Ship of the Line" came out, calling the Bozeman a "border patrol vessel", rather than Jackill's "tactical frigate". I, too, like to think they're weapons, being assigned to the neutral zone. Klingons would be more likely to view such a vessel with greater respect than if they were simple sensors. Plus...turrets! :).

I guess some folks believe that if they were big guns, it wouldn't be very "Starfleet".

You don't need to have a bunch of big phallic-looking guns on a ship for it to be formidable. The Enterprise-D was a match or more so than pretty much any ship we saw on TNG, other than the Borg and the Tamarians, but it didn't need to LOOK like had something to prove. Besides which, those weapons are all facing FORWARD. If an attack is coming from the side, above, blow, or behind, can they swivel? Even if they can, that could waste precious seconds.

I haven't read the accompanying magazine, but I suspect they just added some bits to the Reliant without thinking too much about what they did, since they couldn't afford a new model.

Normally I would agree, particularly when they modded the Reliant for use as Sisko's Saratoga, which were a couple of simple sensor pods in either side of the main hull, but the Bozeman was something else, far more elaborate than any other Miranda mod seen before or since. They even replaced the bridge with the old Phase II module. Not sure what thy were angling for, and I plan on reading that mag cover to cover.

Oh, and the four turrets' initial state is forward facing, sure, but as they do appear to be turrets, the assumption there is that they could swivel and rotate in such a way as to provide a full 3-axis 360 degree firing arc.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a pic of the Bozeman/Soyuz class in Star Trek Online, and it was raining hell from it's "sensors"

It might have been a mod for another game, though?

So, is anyone gonna print their STO ship?

Upcoming pre-made lineup includes Enterprise-F (post-refit).
I plan to get a ship, and definitely a game-only one that I wouldn’t get my hands on otherwise (like a Starfleet ship from the 31st century, Ouroboros class). How likely is it that Eaglemoss gets us the F?

I never thought the Bozeman's pods were weapons - they don't look anything like phasers or photon torpedo launchers. They do look a bit like the antennae on the top of Spacedock, so I always assumed they were long range sensors or communications equipment. My assumption was that she would patrol the Klingon or Romulan borders and start gathering intel.

Nice unboxing of the discovery here and also a look at the magazine which i haven't seen in other vids.

My Discovery was waiting for me when I got home from work this evening. Nice model.

Letter in the box said there would be a delay until issue 3 was out and they were going to give an extra free gift with it. Well, the Klingon BOP model is so unappealing I’m really not sure that a mystery free gift could convince me to say as a subscriber.

Decisions...

Interesting thing I noticed about the Disco. If you shine a flashlight down from the top through the impulse engine area and you look at it from underneath, you'll see that the entire backside is all one piece made of clear red plastic with some areas like the shuttle bay doors painted in hull bronze over it. Discovered that by accident as I was looking at the details close up.

Again with Bryan Fuller and not wanting round nacelles

Any interesting facts in the booklet?

He wanted to distinguish discovery ships from other series, set it in a specific era, or he had another reason we don't know of.
I would have preferred the more rectangular/square nacelles than what we got.

Eaves thought it had something to do with the spore drive initially if I read the other page correctly.

Maybe it was to make the Enterprise unique.
