Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Problem is, you can look on Facebook content even without account. But the Eaglemoss group is for members only.
I know, I'm an oddity. That's why I never see the latest and greatest stuff. I look on the bright side with that and am just pleasantly surprised when I see something new pop up here. I do occasionally check out Ben's Twitter feed, which is open (don't have an account there either) and it has some cool news on there at times.

just got notification of shipment of my jumbo NX-01 pre-order (i'm in the states). gotta say, i am pleasantly surprised, i thought for sure they'd ship it after the release date, not before. because, you know, they're them.

Quite the opposite, actually. In fact, every "pre-order" ship I've ever ordered has arrived promptly, as if it was there all along. This is why I always refer to "pre-order" in "air quotes".

Now, having a rare grasp of the conspirator's mind, it is my theory is that, since most "pre-order" items (larger-size Specials and XL ships, specifically) are higher-dollar than regular ships, I found it interesting that the regular promotional codes that Eaglemoss regularly announces never apply to "pre-order" items. If they did, there would be some big savings to customers. Even after ships are very much available for months, they would often still be listed as "pre-order" for no apparent reason. Since most people agree that their site's architecture and maintenance level really aren't all that great, it could be easily rationalized as sheer laziness. I'm sure there's some of that going on, too. However, based on my own experience and the experiences of others, I am very much convinced that they keep things on "pre-order" longer than necessary to prevent people from applying these ostensibly generous promo codes on higher-dollar items. I also believe that this somewhat ethically gray-area of behavior is actually an active part of their "business model" (also in "air quotes").

they shipped my jellyfish pre-order late last year, prompting the ultimately futile argument from me that pre-order should mean arrival on the release date. this time it may actually happen.

Lots of ship goodness coming soon for me:

Titan magazine finally showed up today
XL Enterprise NX-01 shipped &
Regular Subscription Cheyenne Class and Borg Queen shipped. Both the regular sub and NX-01 should be here sometime between tomorrow and Friday. I knew they were coming because I saw the pending charges on Friday, and the packages showed up in the USPS system (I saw them in the Informed Delivery app on Sat). Apparently the packages ship USPS Parcel Select which is about the slowest thing you can use. Looks like Eaglemoss uses some company called Newgistics to ship which sent them from Indiana to New Jersey before turning over to the USPS and they were in Virginia this morning. Yet somehow it could take until Friday by the time everything ends up in the local post office. I don't live in a small area either (close to 2 million people) .

Anyway, I'm excited to get the Cheyenne class. I remember first seeing the design printed on a trading card back in the 90's. I think it was a long time before we got another image of her. Still can't believe we're getting these obscure ships.

Wow! That is one beautiful model. Looks like Ben's team had to fill in some blanks on it, though. There was never originally anything under the "pod" at the top-rear of the ship. Totally empty space:

They appear to have given it a viable hangar bay back there, which makes perfect sense. Cannot wait to see this one up close.

Yeah, I’m glad they filled this spot.

Also, Specials release date speculation by Tony Barker on Facebook:
“I cant remember the exact post but it was on august 4th when it mentioned the K7 (10th special)is being released onthe18th of sept..and future specials being released every 3 months! Making the date 18th dec. I have it all written down in my notes! Then the NCC 1701(2263) on the 19th march! I recieved my K7 on the 2nd of sept.so it might be a little early!!”
The release on 18 December thusly would be the USS Enterprise XCV-330.

Yep the Ahwahnee and Diamond arrived yesterday. The Diamond is probably one of the best models Eaglemoss has made to date in that scale. Positivity beautiful! The attention to detail and paint job are top notch.

Ethically gray? What like how everything in a department store (and Amazon for that matter) is always on sale? The only thing in retail that matters is the price they're selling to you at. Doesn't matter whether an item is marked pre-order or "new" or "special" or whatever. Either you get a discount or you don't. Either you agree to the price and delivery window or you dont. The verbage is immaterial.

In my dealings, Eaglemoss has been entirely above board. I'll agree their site isn't the best, but that's not an ethics issue. Also, I have had to wait on pre-order items (shuttle set 3, Titan, Aventine). They just ship 1-2 weeks early. Which, if they're getting them slow boated from China like I expect, is a decent buffer. I'm actually glad they're not just sitting on them, waiting for a BS launch day.

Just got my Aventine! It is little. The magazine was nice, as I realized I knew nothing at all about how the model came about. Now I just hope I can track down a Titan; I didn't realize they were shop exclusives until last week.

You clearly haven't been paying attention for the past 2 years. And maybe you've just been lucky. Please read earlier posts on this topic. The issues are painfully well-known, here and elsewhere on the net.

Eaglemoss (particularly in the US) has a long history of customer service problems. True, in the beginning, they were doing fairly well - when they were being run out of the UK - and I was one of their biggest apologists when other people started noticing the issues. Things were running a bit slow, being managed from thousands of miles away, but the quality of the service was very good. Then, when they opened up their Philadelphia office, the problems grew and became more common. Initially many of us thought they were isolated glitches stemming from the switch-over. As it turns out, the customer service people Eaglemoss hired didn't seem to much care about their product and continued to work as apathetic call center droids. I have personally been lied to on a couple of occasions when dealing with them and speaking to their management about some of said issues produced little-or-no results. And please don't waste my time asking me to cite examples. They are all well-documented in this thread, by me and many others. Look for them yourself - burden of proof has already been satisfied in this case.

Don't get me wrong, I REALLY DO want Eaglemoss to succeed. I would like to eventually see the new Battlestar Galactica line they've announced because I know the quality of the product to be top-shelf. What I hope most of all is that Ben & co. to not become disheartened and disillusioned with what they're doing because of the idiot gatekeepers who clearly aren't doing their job at the Pennsylvania office. I fear they are doing a great disservice to Ben and his team who work diligently to provide an otherwise generally superior product.

received my NX-01XL today. there's a blemish on the bridge dome that's a bit annoying, but otherwise she's pretty spectacular:
22792423_10101045990249309_6743538155861532963_o.jpg

but there's always a but.

just like the jumbo enterprise-E, i'm not finding myself blown away by the NX-01 because the standard version was so solid and they clearly didn't put any extra love or detail into the jumbo. as with the enterprise-E, this is just a blown up version of the littler model and that's a bummer. a few more translucent pieces or a more detailed paint application could've made the difference, not to mention the fact that some components look weird because they're enlarged from a smaller scale (i.e. the bussards and the deflector dish).

anyway this is total white people problems here and it's an embarrassment of riches that we even have such a superior product at all. i guess, i would just say this jumbo starships thing has been an interesting experiment, but if you're happy with your standard version (or even NX-01 refit special), there's nothing here other than size that you're getting for $75.

so bring on the shenzhou and the discovery in 2018, they're gonna be this size, but they're ships we haven't already bought once or twice already that ultimately prove to be just as good as their less expensive counterparts.

100% agreed. Really wished the Brits would take back the US operations. Things were a little slower either originally, obviously, due to the extreme distance involved but at least everyone knew they were highly reliable.
