Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Hmm... then I guess this is one of those that would need to be done extra to be included in the set. That's going to be a tough one to do - ILM / Image-G put a [Trump]YUUUUGE[/Trump] amount of detailing and greebles on that puppy. I do hope they make one, but I'm not holding my breath.

Isn't there a licence issue which means new-film ships have to be specials? Of course, that could be renegotiated.

Mattel already had the license to make the JJ era ships in the smaller size. For Eaglemoss to get to make them, they had to be a larger size. That's the licensing issue.

Have you stumbled across this guy's page yet? I think they could do 200, depending on how insanely obscure they were willing to get..

I'd totally buy... oh, at least half of those.

Ok that is impressive! I'm drooling just thinking of the possibilities there. He's got another 200+ ships nicely detailed, without even considering repainted or renamed variants or mods of existing tooling. ( I'm still lobbying for a battle damaged refit and a Doomsday Machine Mangled USS Constelation!)

My one other point where I differ from him is the Drydock's. I so want them to be specials, scaled such that you could park a ship in them.

I don't think the size has anything to do with it. Mattel made non-JJ ships in the "smaller" size, so it would be odd for that not to be a problem if size were an issue. To be honest, I was under the impression that they were special editions so those that didn't like the JJ-verse could skip them without having "holes" in their numbered issue collection.

Ah but that wasn't CGI.
A rough CG version of the Merchantman in its Vidiian appearance was created for "The phage" but I doubt the CG model still exists.

No it had everything to do with the size of the ships for the jj universe. on those Mattel had an exclusive license. They didn't have an exclusive license for smaller based ships that had already been done and often to death. But with a new film series and new ships mattel was willing to pay enough to get an exclusive license for ships of that size for the new films (the amount you pay to be get a license isn't anywhere near as great as what you pay to get an exclusive license). And since Mattel ain't making larger sized ships, they wouldn't need that as part of their licensing agreement, thus how Eaglemoss was able to make them, but limited on how.

I wouldn't be surprised at all right now if Eaglemoss is trying to get rights to any new ships for the new tv series, and I am quite sure they would much rather have smaller scale, and I am asa quite sure that they don't have the funds to try and get an exclusive license for them either. now it is possible that a larger manufacture will offer up the enough license money to prevent eagle moss is being able to use anything from the new show at either size, won't know that until much later, which would suck for us, certainly.

And Eaglemoss had different plans for what they planned for their specials to be,, if they could have done smaller ones, they could have also done them in a way that made them optional to buyers as they weren't part of the original ads for the collection, and that certainly hasn't stopped eagle moss in producing smaller size models that have been optional purchases to the consumer.

They could easily reach 200 with out even hitting any of the more obscure kit bashes. easily. now obviously if they wanted to start doing every redress of the reliant or every reuse of some of the more common designs (like the Merchantman), then we could easily go over 300.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the misspelling of the Equinox registry as 'EQUINDX' instead of 'EQUINOX' has been fixed at any point? It's one of those ships constantly out of stock on the Eaglemoss website, and I keep passing it up on Ebay because I have it in my head from somewhere that the error was corrected, and all of those on Ebay I have come across have the error - if it hasn't ever been fixed, I might be passing it up for no reason at all. Looking at images of the Equinox on German websites leads me to believe the error was corrected, but it doesn't hurt to ask just to be sure.

I hadn't noticed any such error on mine.

I did hear quite a few people complain that the Starfleet pennant on the Defiant Is pointing the wrong way on one of the nacelles. Some of the major reviewers on YouTube (Geekology, SoundwageSG1, and I think Irishtrekkie; all of which I recommend checking out) complained about this on their models, but the one I got didn't have that problem, so maybe the later ones or the North American batch were corrected.

And I'll be there to buy each and every one of them... :alienblush:. I'm a completest through and through which is why I've had to give up on many different collectible habits over the years.

Received the NX-01 Refit this morning and it's great. The details, shape and painting are all excellent and vivid as well as the size of the model. The ship outline just "works" for me and I would have loved to see it in motion. The accompanying magazine is informative giving Drexler's take and history with it. It's also filled with the beautiful CG paintings we've seen online and in the Ships of the Line calendar. I really hope these specials sell well and they go back and give us a better TOS Enterprise, E-E and I'd love an E-C (they kind of dropped the ball on the C) in the larger format. This is quickly becoming one of my favorites of the line along with the original NX and D models. It appears as if a lot of effort and care went into these three models and it shows.
Would love to get my hands on that ship. Is it out in the UK and US now?

I've already decided I'm probably going to drop my subscription after I get all the Enterprises and be more picky.

Yes, it's out now in the US. I believe the UK has had it available for a few months .

As I said, that would be very difficult for me to do being the completionist I am. Also, no offense, but I hope there aren't too many such as yourself because as more and more drop their subscriptions the less likely we see any ships past issue 110 (though I completely understand your reasoning).
