Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

By god, that was an ugly kitbash.

Worse than that Yeager monstrosity that was half Voyager, half Maquis ship? That thing would make Dr. Moreau cringe! :rommie:

Was thinking the same thing. The Centaur is downright elegant compared to most of the DS9 kitbashes.

Both were pretty hideous to me.

Well, at least the Centaur's parts seem to go together well. The Excelsior and the Miranda were of a similar design era, so it wasn't so outragous of similar parts to show up, just as the Constituion, the Miranda, and the Constellation having similar nacelles.

Whereas with the Yeager, while Voyager and the Maquis are both technically Federation designs, they're about forty years apart, so you get Voyager's elegant-looking primary hull clashing hideously with the boxy aft section of a Maquis.

I like to think of the Centaur of having been a simpler off-shoot of the Excelsior design, in the same way the Nebula probably was from the Galaxy and the Miranda might've been from the Constitution. Buckner's opinion notwithstanding, I prefer to think of it being in scale with an Excelsior saucer rather than the Miranda parts, simply the saucer was far more visible than the other parts. That might not totally mesh with the scale of the Jem'Hadar ship in "A Time to Stand", but it wouldn't be the first time the scale between ships was blurry (i.e. the original, unremastered version of the Planet Killer in "The Doomsday Machine", or the Enterprise-E vs. Defiant in "First Contact").

It just occurred to me lately, how some of these would be pretty neat to get signed by actors whose characters had some connection to the ship. Besides the obvious cast members from any series or movies to which a "hero ship" belonged (1701, 1701 refit, 1701-A, 1701-D, future 1701-D, 1701-E, Defiant, Runabout, Voyager, armored Voyager, Delta Flyer, NX-01, and Abrams-1701), I was thinking about what other ones would be neat to have signed, if someone shows up at a convention.

-Pretty much any of the major Klingon performers could sign the BoP magazine. The Negh'Var magazine too in the case of Robert O'Reilly, J.G. Hertlzer, and I suppose Michael Dorn. Vaughn Armstron could sign the Klingon Raptor too.

-George Takei, the Excelsior and Walter Koenig or Judson Scott, the Reliant (since Grace Lee Whitney, Ricardo Montalban, and Paul Winfield are sadly no longer with us).

-Jeffrey Combs, the Andorian ship (and maybe the Jem'Hadar attack ship and battle cruiser also).

-Alice Krige, the Borg sphere.

-Marc Alaimo, the Cardassian Galor class (and perhaps the Romulan warbird too).

-Pretty much any Ferengi actor from TNG (including Armin Shimerman and Ethan Phillips), the Ferengi Marauder

-Avery Brooks and Cirroc Lofton, the Bajoran sailor

-Ray Wise, the Dauntless

-Patrick Stewart, the Stargazer

-John Savage, the Equinox

-Bob Gunton, the Nebula

-Kurtwood Smith, the Krenim ship

-Robert Picardo, Judson Scott, and Andy Dick (if he ever did a con), the Prometheus

-Robert Beltran and Roxann Dawson, the Maquis ship

-Gregory Itzin, the Vulcan Suurok class

-Brian Thompson, the Romulan drone

-Alan Ruck and Jaqueline Kim, the Enterprise-B

-Tricia O'Neill and Christopher McDonald (and perhaps Denise Crosby), the Enterprise-C

-Any of the Hirogen actors (Vaughn Armstrong, Tiny Ron, Tony Todd), the Hirogen ship.

-Jeri Ryan, the upcoming Raven

-Ethan Phillips, the upcoming Baxial (Neelix's ship)

-Walter Koenig, the Botany Bay (yes, I know Chekov never set foot on the ship, but just because it'd be fun to "Botany Bay? Botany Bay! Oh no!")

Ah man, I've been waiting for the TOS Enterprise for quite a while, but the wait has been worth it! :D

Has anyone got the Future Enterprise-D yet? I don't think I have, I've been anticipating it though. I think they said they had to delay it once? But that might've been another subscription...

If you're on FB, and Friend of their page (Star Trek Starships Collection), you can PM them about it, and after a few back and forth messages where they ask for your contact information and so forth, they'll get one out to you if in stock. I got mine that way about 6 months ago like that.

Got my NCC-1701 TOS Enterprise and cargo ship yesterday, and although I've never really been a superfan of TOS or that version of the ship, this Eaglemoss model of it is actually quite nice. Rather impressed by it actually. Hopefully the eventual 1701-A model will redeem that version of the ship with aztecing and better paint details.

Any subscribers in Canada receive any of the special issues? DS9, JJ-Prise, Vengeance, etc? I was under the impression that they're sent out at certain times during a subscription, but I was just speaking with Eaglemoss customer service through Facebook about a missing shipment, and I asked about the timing of them. Their response was that they don't have confirmed release dates and that they're not sure they'll be released at all.

Does that seem weird to anyone else?

I received my Fortunate and TOS Enterprise yesterday, unfortunately the nacelle on the Enterprise was broken off, but Eaglemoss quickly responded to my email and are processing a replacement.

Can't speak to Canada, but I received all of those, albeit a bit later than when they said we should receive them. This was especially true for the other specials, like the AGT Enterprise-D and Borg Cube. The specials always seem to get extremely delayed compared to the regular run of ships. If you've gotten none of the specials, you should probably call them up to make sure you're "opted in" on all of them on your account. It is a separate process and you're not opted in by default. Same thing for the binders, too, I think.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm opted in for everything according to my welcome letter; I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I bought the 22nd century Intrepid today. Like the Klingon Raptor, which was my last purchase, it's a rather heavy ship, owing to it being mostly metal: In this case the entire saucer (or entire half-saucer) with plastic nacelles. I'm almost nervous holding it by the nacelles, rather than the saucer.

Believe it or not, of the ten or so ships I've got, this is only the second Starfleet ship (the first being the Akira) and red Bussard collectors made of clear plastic really catch the eye.

Since it was apparently a CG kitbash of sorts, the Intrepid is a strange looking ship. I'm not sure how I feel about the nacelles being that close to the hull, given how they've always been isolated from the rest of the ship, probably for good reason (not to mention having a bright red Bussard collector glowing outside your window, when you're trying to sleep )

The half-saucer, however is actually a neat idea and it might be interesting to see other ships with that look. As for the fins on the nacelles, I'm not sure what purpose they'd serve. Atmospheric flight, perhaps? (Though not necessarily landing).

One thing I never noticed before is the hatches at the back of the saucer, which are apparently impulse engines, though I feel like the nacelle struts might get in the way of that, as well as the exhaust putting strain on the struts themselves.

Also, it might be my imagination, but there looks to be a tiny hangar bay at the very back of the ship in the place where the shuttle bay is located on Voyager and every Enterprise except the "D". If it is, that's interesting, considering the presumably-more advanced NX class has shuttles dropping down from the ventral section.

I love the UES Intrepid. In the non-canon but licensed Star Trek: Enterprise: Rise of the Federation novel A Choice of Futures, Captain Reed is given the USS Pioneer NCC-63, an Intrepid-class ship. The novel explains the ship is "lean and mean". Cargo bays are situated beneath the bussard collectors, so nobody suffers from the lights. But the collectors are hot by being close to the hull, that's why the nacelle fibs serve to cool the assembly. No words on where the shuttlebay is, though. In other news, German subscribers just received the Prometheus, the Tholian ship and the giant Borg cube. Lucky me, I'm in the airport waiting on my flight to Germany right now! :bolian:

I'm not a subscriber, I just order direct from the distributor (through my FLCS/FLGS).

I began late, so I had to order my Future Enterprise from eBay, but all the specials except Borg Cube have been available to me by ordering locally (Vancouver, BC).

6 months... Gomtuu Jr. should be born in another year or so.

Seriously though, my Armoured Voyager order just landed last week. I haven't been by to pick it up yet.

My collection currently consists of:

Specials:
• JJ-Prise
• USS Vengeance (x2 due to an order mixup that netted me the first one for free)

Regulars:
• Stargazer
• Enterprise B
• Enterprise C
• Enterprise D
• Enterprise D Refit
• Delta Flyer (awaiting replacement and major flaws found)
• Thunderchild
• Prometheus
• D'deridex
• Valdore

There's many more I want to get.
Also, I don't have the Magazines for either Enterprise D or Refit D so if anyone would be willing to scan me a copy, I'd be ever so grateful.

I heard the the JJ-prise didn't come with a magazine? is that true? If it did, I got hosed and need to ask them as that one came direct from the Eaglemoss starships website (US to my post box ;-).

Yeah, I think that, with the exception of the AGT E-D and E-D plaque, all the specials had magazines. They probably left those out because they already had the main E-D #1 magazine and there wasn't more the felt they needed to write up for the 3-engine variant (or the plaque) to warrant a whole separate publication.

I'm not a subscriber, but I've managed to snag the Enterprise NX-01 (with magazine) and the Defiant (without magazine) from eBay - great models, plenty of detail and very well made. There are a few other ships I'd like also, but as I don't want to spend lots and hardly have the room to display, I'm being very discerning. Only problem is, especially for the more popular as well as the older models in the collection, here in the UK it's almost impossible to get these except through eBay or subscription. I actually managed to snag the Enterprise E (unopened, with magazine) for £26 yesterday (£4 of that is postage and packaging), but was it really worth it getting it that way, at that price? It's perhaps my most favourite ship, but I am wondering if it'll ever be available in shops/online to general customers again (before invariably going swiftly back out of stock)? I don't intend to subscribe, so apart from pre-ordering/snapping up any ships I really like - I will do that for the Enterprise A, I will not miss that one - my only resort is eBay; the few that pop up on Amazon are invariably even pricier.

Eaglemoss do seem to restock eventually. I waited until the NCC-1701 (issue 50) became available again for £9.99. Otherwise, I'd have had to pay more than £30 on Amazon or eBay.

I had a terrible experience with Eaglemoss. Wanted the Jem Had'ar Bug...got a Doctor Who figurine instead. I won't touch their site with a hyperspanner.
