Looks like they're in some sort of ion cloud, or nebula.

Also you can't make out the name or registry, at least in that shot. So it might not be the Discovery.
Maybe it's USS Crossfield?

Yeah I just noticed that as I posted.

Which can mean a few things

A) The Discovery is not destroyed between Season 2 and the next 1000 years
B) It's a replica or duplicate
C) It's an alternate timeline/universe
D) At some point Discovery gets displaced in time without its crew
E) This is all an illusion or falsehood.

not to get crazy bogged down in analyzing a 30 second promo for a 15 minute show, but this also caught my eye:

specifically, what's going on with that ortho of the ship? bad graphic or is the ship slightly different from what we're used to?

not to get crazy bogged down in analyzing a 30 second promo for a 15 minute show, but this also caught my eye:

I think that's just the bottom of the ship, the dark area on the rear is the slope under the shuttlebay, there's just shading or lighting making it dark.

Or, just a computer glitch.

Whoa. Way back, I was predicting a more serious time-jump eventually than the nine-month jump we saw at the end of S1. What they have in this short was not exactly what I had in mind...

That or a "Mark of Gideon", where he's on a replica, made to think he's in the year 3255, as some sort of alien experiment. Of course, Kirk was in his same time period, but just thinking it's an alien-made duplicate.
