JJ is a man of mystery, the man lives on the stuff. Unfortunately, there was nothing mysterious about the destruction of Vulcan - we know how and why it happened, there is no story in creating another new timeline to suit this.
Infact, none of the mystery from this movie was left unresolved, leaving, as others have said - a completely blank slate. Anything will happen in the next film.
Actually there isn't a blank slate, if anything he created a powered keg and he'd be very smart to roll with that for the next movie. Nero may have died, but be won. The Klingons lost 47 ships and the Federation lost at least 7 starships plus a core planet.
This gives us two wounded cats and the Romulans in position to take advantage of the balance of power shifting their way. You may see a very different universe because of these events. The Klingons are going to become even more militant. You could also see Starfleet redirect its efforts to from scientific programs to combat operations to counter this.
I don't what we JJ has planned, but one way he could go would be to make things get so bad in this universe, that the best available option is to do a little "cheating" and try to change that timeline in a way that saves both Vulcan and Romulus.
