STAR TREK SECRET VOYAGE episode 03

A couple days ago there was a short Youtube trailer from Secret Voyage that was a major spoiler for their next episode. I don't want to reveal it in writing just yet, and also I can't seem to find this trailer anymore...All I can say is, Craig Sheeler's group is ambitious...

EDIT: ^^^ The above is no longer the case with the software the board currently runs under.

EDIT: It appears the trailer was deleted at some point.

Sorry for the confusion. When this film popped up in my Youtube feed a few days ago, I mistakenly assumed it was a preview for Secret Voyage's next episode, since it was released from Mr Sheeler's account and had Star Trek in its title. Good luck with your Kickstarter...

Its a shame this series never ended up filming any more episodes before the climate changed. I quite enjoyed the first 2, and was looking forward to seeing where the plot went. Story arcs in TOS garb are an interesting thing.... I've never seen it talked about much, but it felt like it was in the same Phase II/Exeter/Farragut level of quality.

I hesitate to reply because this is bumping a 3.7 year quiescent thread, but just to clarify what seems to be the situation...

it looks like they closed up shop. Their Facebook page is gone, as is their domain.

Their ~2012 Indiegogo shows not one donation.

Their 2012 Kickstarter only got $70 from two pledges towards their $5K goal, or just 1.4% of what they wanted.

Like so many fan shows looking for funding they seemed to have no idea how to go about it. They slapped a crappy uninspiring clip on their Kickstarter and don't seem to have played the social media game necessary to successfully crowdsource.

Yeah, I didn't want to get the thread locked, but I thought of these guys when we were talking about the fanfilm guidelines and who has closed up shop and why.... what the major losses to the scene were. I had almost forgotten about them myself. It was one of the earlier fanfilms for me (well, I knew about Phase II back in 2007-2008, but didn't really get reinvolved with any of this until STC hit the scene.) I was generally impressed with these guys and hoped to see where the story was going. It was the only thread I could find on them, and didn't want to open a new one, but it always surprised me that there was never more discussion on here about them, considering how badly we dissect everything else. Only $70?? they had such a small goal to reach. Con men get dump trucks of cash donated, and these guys couldn't even get a hundred bucks..... thats sad. A decent PR presence could have turned them into a solid fan outfit.

I still wonder what was going to happen next.

Well, I don't recall anyone here saying they were much impressed. I certainly wasn't. I remember thinking the lead wasn't engaging, the video was overprocessed and many of the VFX clunky. The story I don't remember at all.

A lot of films get posted here that get one or two comments and that's it. If you're a member of the community here people are more likely to engage about your work. albeit that's a two-edged sword since some fan filmmakers here balk at even the mildest critiques of their work, so if you don't swoon, you might as well yell into the wind.

Like I said, it was an early one for me, so maybe it just seemed impressive because the whole idea of fanfilms was still pretty impressive to me at the time. I don't even remember the details of the story, but I remember being really interested and have the feeling of being left on a cliffhanger. I should probably rewatch it. It left a favorable impression with me, either way. (I try not to ever judge the acting in amateur performances.)

Yeah, some people can't take criticism... but some people don't know how to *give* it with respect, either....

I liked Secret Voyage. Craig, who produced it, is a nice guy. We’ve chatted a bit over the years. He’s moved on to other things.

Any idea where he was going with the storyline? Either way, getting 2 completed episodes is still quite an accomplishment.

I give kudos to anyone who can actually finish a film, as i know how much work it can be. I may not be entertained by the results, but I'll still give an attaboy for the effort. Secret Voyage's stories may not have grabbed me, but they're far from the worst fanfilms out there. In their two released films they made fewer basic cinematography and editing mistakes than some fanfilm series with many more episodes under their belts.
