Game Star Trek Resurgence - new Star Trek videogame announced

Ahhhh thanks. Too many Hansens

I just finished it and really enjoyed the story, despite some of the handling issues throughout.

It was very Star Trek, and I could see myself playing again.

If choppy sound won't bug the bejeezus out of you yeah, it's nothing special but it's a good story and it's nice to be in the Star Trek universe again.

I was hoping for the patch to come out after all the trouble I had when I first launched it a couple weeks ago, but I decided to go through the game now, anyway. There were a few parts where the game bugged out (the infamous DNA sequence, which locked up my tricorder and wouldn't let me scan or holster it after I got some samples, and on the second try, it had a hard crashed when I happened to glance out the window, but I managed to find the golden path and make it another save point in the end), and another tricorder scene, as well. Also, a couple of the "move the cursor to the dot" interactions had very low sensitivity and I actually had to switch to another input device to do them (lucky I use a trackpad and a trackball, depending on context). That last one might've been my fault, I used a fan-patch which allowed me to change the resolution the game was running at, which cleaned up the visuals a bit, but it did warn that it could affect cursor sensitivity in certain QTEs.

The actual gameplay was, frankly, lousy. I grew to dread phaser-fights, where I can't see anything from cover, I get shot immediately when I pop out of cover (and still can't see anything, between enemies that blend into the background and a narrow field of view), and there were some ridiculous sections where I'd have five or ten seconds of "free roam" walking from one end of a short corridor to another between two cutscenes. I feel like the outline is there, but the game should've been more game-like, in giving you more space to move about, and more things to discover (though given how glitchy the tricorder was, and how hard it could be to find the scan targets, maybe not with that).

I was disappointed by the romance options, such as they were, since the game started out really pushing a romantic subplot. I spurned Miranda pretty much immediately, since her coming on so strong when she was introduced was suspicious, and I already thought Edsilar was cute and had good chemistry with Diaz. Judging from the dialog options and the way the reputation menu was phrased, the game seemed to be expecting to do some kind of "the alien possessing my girlfriend also wants to be my girlfriend" Fatal-Attraction-in-Space thing (actually, it was weird that the reputation screen consistently referred to her and the captain as if they were in their right mind even after they were confirmed to be possessed, with the decision reports actually seeming to take her side that Diaz was being unreasonable in not agreeing to also be brainwashed so his body could be with his not-a-girlfriend's body under the control of two random alien minds). It was weird the game still gave Diaz the option to react to her death with "I loved her" even when he'd, at best, let her down gentle, like, a week earlier, and had been totally hard-hearted when she started acting, well, like an alien imposter. And, yeah, I was figuratively throwing popcorn at the screen that all through Diaz's big death-of-personality sequence, he stayed resolutely fraternal with Edsilar. You're dying, go for the kiss!

Also on the subject, was I the only one picking up on a vibe between Rydek and Tylas? It's not like there's some rule that characters can only be queer in odd-numbered centuries.

I'm curious if there might be a glitch or unfinished content in Bedrosian's arc; looking at the website, it records that I pulled her off the live wire, but then the next sentence about how I made her sad by not doing a genocide phrases it as "adding insult to injury," right after talking about how I earned her eternal gratitude. It get that she's in security, but it's weird she has such a hard line on murdering aliens despite whether or not you'd been in her good graces.

I'd really like to know more about where and how the storyline branches. I see some YouTube videos talking about alternate endings, but I don't have time for that, I'd rather see something in writing. I've seen some game wikis where fans have actually made interactive transcripts where you can see the responses to every choice side by side, along with the variations that are based on earlier actions.

Also, lot of good ships in this (aside from the two Mirandas that were superimposed on each other occasionally during the beginning of the game). It looked like every one had a unique name and registry, a surprisingly rare bit of i-dotting and t-crossing. Kind of curious about Spock riding around in a shuttle from one or two Excelsiors ago, maybe it was like Scotty in "Relics," Sulu loaned him a shuttle once eighty years ago and he never gave it back.

I suspect that either Urmott or Westbrook is always going to go to engineering to help with repairs during the space battle and be bio-formed when the ship is hit by the beam, even if you do mollify all of them.

Even though the game is open-ended enough to suggest a sequel, I don't see how it'd be practical with the number of branches leading to who ends up where in the crew.

Yeah but Rydek is the consistent anchor. I could see the sequel happen with just her as the holdover surrounded by an almost all new Bridge crew, or maybe not even ship centric - thinking Chain of Command style mission for example...

They could make it like Mass Effect sequels where the previous progression of the game save is taken into account and then the sequel plays off that for story telling purposes and dialogue changes.

The dialogue wouldn't have to change that much from one character to the next (if say two of them can end up in the same position - just a minor variation should do).

If a sequel is made though, the devs should really work on improving in-game graphics a bit where ships are involved, as right now, it looks a bit... unpolished - some scenes are missing shadows from expected light sources for example (and they could really improve things visually) along with the background music (which right now sounds... just wrong in most places - as if it was clumsly put together).

Looks like they made a few modifications... which is good.
But I don't think they had to adjust the transporter mini game. Sure it was frustrating in a few parts, but otherwise, its not impossible to beat.

I think they need to work on some pre-existing bugs where the tricorder refuses to function (in scenes where its required) and some graphics optimizations (such as the massive tractor beam effect on the planet which kills FPS - my Vega 56 SHOULD be able to run that smoothly at 1080p, but its not) - along with obviously adding shadows to some external ship scenes where they seem to be missing).

Well, that was brilliant! :)

Great story, great world creation, some wonderful cameos and I was really encouraged to get to the end. I would have completed much quicker if it wasn't for personal life matters! Excellent game, well worth the money.

Have people played the alternative choices?

I gotta say, the latest patch for the PC was a good one since the game seems much better optimized now. No more stuttering during gameplay for me.
