Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

Did I miss an announcement that the show was going on a Xmas break?

I think it's more that it's stepping back in favor of Discovery.

‪‪I don’t think that’s the case. ‪‪It’s a six week break beginning with the Thanksgiving Holiday and ending after New Years. These are the busiest travel weeks in America, and a time when family/chidren’s programming is centered around holiday themed fare. The break is standard practice for US children’s television.

Also it’s going to be released alongside Discovery for several weeks when it returns, unless Discovery takes a hiatus as well.

Which just makes it more puzzling that intangibility seems to be her default setting.

Which may have been damaged in the crash on Tars Lamora.

Although since the hologram is an extension of the computer, it could be that she's not actually physically depressing the keys, but merely interfacing with their underlying software, with the visual appearance of operating the controls being a teaching tool for observing cadets.

It's either that or Gwyn inadvertently reset her to her factory default settings when she seized control of the computer (teenagers aren't known for thinking things through).

The series just got an entry on my cable service’s TV listings, with the special airing of two-part premiere episodes Lost and Found, Parts 1 and 2 on Nickelodeon in the U.S. beginning on December 17th, and the premiere is scheduled to air 6 times by the 20th.

‪‪I get the feeling they’re going to run that opening two-parter over and over throughout the winter break to try to get kids hooked, and to ask for Paramount+ so they’re able to continue the series, just in time for the show to pick back up in January.

Smart idea!

I just listened to the first podcast appearance/interview of Prodigy’s creators/show runners, Dan and Kevin Hageman, here from Discovering Trek. It’s a great window into their development process, and as always, the Hageman Brothers come across as earnest and genuine people with a real affection for Trek, if not the super fandom that some call for.

Kevin mentioned transporters on the list of things that’ll be introduced like the phasers and tricorders we got in episode 04, slowly. Dan jokingly chastised him for spoiling it while dropping the information himself that they’re going to be introducing the kids to the holodeck as time goes on as well.

Kevin confirms that we’ll get to understand where Dal comes from even more, and that we’re meant to see him as a “little prick” to start.

Murf was apparently the last addition to the cast, originating from a joke.

They’re currently finishing writing for the second 20 episode season, working on episode 36, at the same time the final production is being completed on the next set of five episodes that we’ll be getting in a month. And they do confirm that episode 6 is called Kobayashi, as well.

Lots of tidbits details, and semi-spoilers in this interview, worth checking out.

‪‪I checked my cable listings for Prodigy to see how many times it was scheduled to air on broadcast television during the hiatus, and ‪‪I was surprised to see the listings updated to no longer be for the 2 part premiere Lost and Found, Parts 1 & 2, but for episode 3, Starstruck.

‪‪I figured it was likely in error, because the announcement a couple weeks ago specified it would be the 2-part premiere, and my cable listings can be less than reliable, but ‪‪I checked the official Nickelodeon site, and it was updated the same way there.

Honestly, while Lost and Found was a great introduction to the series and characters that ‪‪I enjoyed a great deal, I get the apparent reasoning behind this decision, if the premiere was really traded for episode 03.

Starstruck
*does* feel like an episode that’s more representative of the what the series is going to feel like, as a whole, to me, and it begins with Janeway’s Federation pitch, so ‪‪I think ‪‪I get what they’re going for.

Not saying you are wrong, cause areas differ and my listings confirms your claim, but I just talked to family back east and their listings show Prodigy episodes 1 & 2 airing on their Nick channels this week.

So where ever you are, if you're looking to catch Prodigy on Nickelodeon, check your listings to be sure.

For sure! I’ve found cable listings are inconsistent at best in my experience. That’s why ‪‪I checked the Nickelodeon website itself to confirm the information as best we’re able.

It would be asking a lot to expect them to be super fans.

I would hope so.

The show has already done the physically impossible -- it's managed to make Kate Mulgrew taller!

Kate had to wear four-inch heels while filming Voyager.

It felt good to finally hear Janeway deliver THAT line:
"To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before."

The Nickelodeon/traditional television premiere of Prodigy was last night, and kids without Paramount+ got a chance to dive into the series (and Trek) with a quick recap of the two-part series opener before the episode Starstruck.

I think their brief summary of Lost and Found, Parts 1 & 2 was fairly effective, managing to sum it all up for any kids coming into it all cold.

I hope the frequent re-airings the next couple weeks get more eyes on the series, and help some future fans discover the show and join Hologram Janeway and the kids as they explore all the great things about Star Trek.
