Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

I hear humans are still voicing them so we’re not there yet

The Green Blob may well speak a language that only one of the characters can understand (Possible R2D2 role?):

Blob: "Gurgle, Chirp, Tweet, Gurgle, Whistle"
Another crew member: "He said, 'Janeway's in trouble near the rocks!' " :vulcan:

I think if Okona appeared in Priodgy, that would have to be toned down, that wouldn't really fly in a Nickelodeon cartoon. If he appears in Lower Decks, that can aspect can remain.

If he were to try and put the moves on Mariner, Captain Freeman would order him shot out an airlock.

I think Mariner might be the one putting the moves on him.

Given that Okona has a libido the size of the Crab Nebula, Mariner might be getting more than she bargained for! :guffaw: (The man impregnated an entire royal household! )

Harry Mudd was a memorable character who got off on the wrong foot with being in "Mudd's Women". I think most people like Harry Mudd more because of "I, Mudd". Mainly because the character was fine, it's just the problem was the original episode he was in.

I think Okona might turn out to be a similar situation. Okona's a colorful character but "The Outrageous Okona" was just kind of a really lukewarm episode. But I think he could really flourish in a different type of story.

All I remember is the King, his Queen, and the women of his court beaming aboard the Enterprise -- with all the women being in various stages of pregnancy.

BENZAN: Yanar is carrying my child.
DEBIN: You said it was Okona's.
YANAR: If I'd told you it was Benzan you would have gone to war with his father. So I let you believe it was Okona.
OKONA: See how a man gets a reputation?
BENZAN: If I had told you I was giving the Jewel to Debin's daughter, you'd have disowned me.
TROI: Now we're hearing some truth.
KUSHELL: So you let me chase Okona when you knew he was innocent.
BENZAN: Yes, because I didn't believe for one moment that you could catch him.

I just watched "The Outrageous Okona" on the treadmill this morning.

KUSHELL: So you let me chase Okona when you knew he was innocent.
BENZAN: Yes, because I didn't believe for one moment that you could catch him.

A man also gets a reputation by banging multiple crew members of the Enterprise. Well, the episode didn't really show anything, but it was certainly implied.

Women have libido too, you know. The impression I got from "The Outrageous Okona" was that the women were every bit as interested in Okona as he was in them.

There was nothing that indicated that he was being predatory. Just charming and horny.

I agree that Okona's appearance sounds very much like a Lower Decks idea, but we don't really know enough about Prodigy yet to say he definitely doesn't fit there. It does seem plausible that the shows got confused somewhere along the line and he ended up with bad information.

(Also, intentional or not, it's super easy to read bisexuality into Okona. I literally had to rewind and rewatch an interaction he had with Worf.)

My belief, if the character is on Prodigy, is that they wrote this random human(oid) rogueish figure to cause a little bit of drama in the show, and one of the continuity nerds in the writers staff (probably one of the Litverse authors) was like "He's just like this character from an early TNG episode. Why don't we just make him that character? His actor is much more famous now, but still affordable!" And the showrunners shrugged and said "whatever."

If the character is on Lower Decks, then McMahan just burst into the writers' Zoom one morning in a cold sweat after remembering that The Outrageous Okona was a thing and demanded an entire episode devoted to following up on him.

We don't know it's an entire episode. It could be a B plot, or even just a quick flashback scene like Q's guest spot.

'Twas a joke, my good man (obviously), but ignoring that, it seems likely to be a B-Plot based on how Campbell described it. More than one scene, at least.

You never know. A character who's boring in the hands of one writer can become interesting when reinterpreted by a different writer.
Color me extremely cautiously intrigued at the possibility. Though, Okona as interesting could simply be him showing up and not making a joke. A step in the right direction there.
