I enjoyed it, but maybe I was tired from pre-Halloween prep, because I found my attention dragging a bit. It was beautiful to watch, but I found the pacing a little strange. It seemed rushed and slow at the same time. The kid loved it, though.

I will write off much of this to my not being the target audience, and I will keep watching.

Once again, I'm seeing the "seems more Star Wars than Star Trek" critique, which I've seen lobbed at the latest Trek since about 1981. Never been able to parse out what that actually means, other than there seems to be this expectation that Trek can't be exciting or something. What exactly is this Star Wars-ness that apparently should be excised from the franchise?

I mentioned this once or twice in the Lower Decks forum, but during the pandemic I found myself in need of a creative lifeline after all of our stage shows were cancelled so I started producing and hosting a Star Trek podcast for the ESO Network, featuring my hilarious wife and some very intelligent friends of ours.

Should you be in to that sort of thing, you can find EARTH STATION TREK on all of the usual podcasting platforms. Our discussion of the Prodigy premiere went out today.

7.

Entertaining, though the General Grievous/Transformer mash-up threw me out of the story a bit.

Still interested enough to see where the next episode takes us.

Star Wars is evil and unworthy of being in Star Trek...

I don't know the reason either.

This episode with the Medusan made me go back and watch "Is there in truth no beauty" for the first time in like 20 years, and I was reminded why I did not watch the episode in 20 years. The Medusans make humans go insane because they are ugly. Not because humans are overpowered by their overwhelming essence or some other sci fi concept, no dude is just so ugly. What an odd choice. Also there is some unfortunate dialog in the episode. "Why don't you stop being a psychologist, and start being a woman."

The conceit was that we thought it was ugly, but actually it was beauty, the ugliness just a myth. And it is kinda sorta implied that they are probably one of those ‘higher dimension’ beings.

Likely a stupid question on my part...

Is Prodigy just playing on Paramount+, or has it aired (will it air) upon Nickelodeon?

Ignore that noise. Trek and Wars have been cross-pollinating from their beginnings.

Is Prodigy just playing on Paramount+
Yes, Paramount+. I saw it there. It is good! :bolian: 8 given.
or has it aired (will it air) upon Nickelodeon?
<searches Nickelodeon...> No, not currently on Nickelodeon. Perhaps someday, as has been said.

Well, the scenes with the Emperor and General Grievous were pretty Star Warsy.

I didn't so much mind these, except for the design of Drednok(?). They should have went back to the drawing board on him.

As others have said, it’s not on Nickelodeon yet, only Paramount+. When it was initially announced it was said it would air on Nickelodeon, but in February they revised it, stating that it would premiere on Paramount+, and then air on Nickelodeon after the first season completes streaming on Paramount+.

Prodigy has been added to a fan-made timeline of the Trek universe.

I did feel that when the "Grievous" lookalike knelt to his Master that it reminded me of the Imperial Dignitary kneeling before Darth Vader's bacta tank container in Rogue One.

Did anyone else notice Gwyn flinch when Drednok took that swing at Dal on the Protostar? It seems like both her and the Diviner are able to see through Drednok's eyes.. I'm guessing revealing/using that ability will be a turning-point moment for her that proves she's on the side of our heroes.
