Star Trek poetry

An old blog post reprinting my 1991 TNG-era poem, "Lore and Order":

http://therinofandor.blogspot.com.au/2007/03/lore-and-order-by-ian-mclean.html

Great Effort, Therin !!!

I liked the Tale of Karl and Lore
A wonderful creation!
We do not hear so much, these days
Of Data's male relations

Lore had a skill for being bad
There is no doubt of that
But Entertainment ruled the roost
When e'er Lore came to bat

From Borg to Crystelline Entity
The List went on and on
Of his bad buds and clueless dupes
On them he put the Con

So, sure I miss the brave, smart crew
Of Star Ships "D" and "E"
But there will always be a place
For Naughty Lore, in me

There once was a Cap'n named Kirk.
He could kill Klingons with a smirk.
After phasers and stabbin's
He'd get down to jabbin'
Hot ladies at the end of his.....dirk?

Data was an android, you see.
No need to breathe, eat, drink, or pee.
When asked by Tasha Yar
"Can you truly go far?"
He said: "I have full functionality."

Once there was an XO named Riker
Ladies man, trumpeter and hiker.
After many long years
Of Troi's laughter and tears
He was finally able to.....spike her?

Once there was a Counselor named Troi
Who could sense anger, fear, love, loss, and joy.
She went for Commander
But the conn keys do not hand her
Or she'll crash your ship.....oh, boy!

:D

Excellent!!!
Your Limerick Rhetoric would make a good Lyric!

Most kind, my friend, thank you. :)
There is so much great poetry in this thread. I am thankful for its presence here! :techman:

and now for something a little more serious

On the sands of my ancestors did I come for you, T'pring!
My blood boils like the arid sun of our homeworld.
Pon Farr, what a painful song it sings.
My long pent emotions- a flag unfurled!

To speak of this to others who need not know
The indignity to my person, my being
In StarFleet, where we boldly go
They needed the facts for seeing....

Why it was this affected my life thus
Since the day I was born, it seems
So I asked my friends to join us
And we came down in transporter beams.

T'pau, the leader of our folk
Had intoned my Vulcan blood was thin
I was caught in the violent yoke
Of the dual blood of my kin.

Because you, my betrothed, were conflicted
Or at least, I thought you to be
When you chose my best friend to champion you
Instead of your new love to be.

We fought, my friend and I
With lirpa and ahn-woon!
To the fight, my friend did die!
And you did not so much as swoon!

Then you tell me you chose yet another
For the years we spent apart.
And then you spoke of the cold logic
That coursed through thy Vulcan heart.

I could not argue or debate
Thy logic was solid and sound.
At least I found myself free from you,
Though of my friend, I'm now bound.

S'tonn, I wish you contentment
T'pring is rightfully yours
I bear you no resentment
E'er she'll have you on all fours...

The loss of her is an echo
Of the blood boil once so haunting
I think you will find, former rival
That having is not so great as wanting.

T'pau bids me Live Long and Prosper
As if this were a thing just to pass
I fear I shall do neither
As my life shatters like glass.

I've taken the life of my friend
For the whims of a Vulcan child!
Though my life is at an end,
No more will I endure the Vulcan wild!

Little do I know in the black above
That fortune would pay me well.
For the moments I endured enough
I was alone in the concept of hell!

(Vulcan gong sounds!)

Thank you. :)

Wowiewowwow! This one played out in my head exactly like the stage play that it is! Man, if we had the power to "animate" our words...really good stuff, martock!!!!

Therin of Andor even had someone illustrate his poems for him! Now that ... is cool! Nicely done, with your poetry as well, sir.

Indeed it was, martok2112 ...

When everything's said, done and finished, I hope that all of the poems in this thread are assembled ... and published in a book. It's sure to outsell Neelix's cookbook, at the very least!

If you wish it so, I can arrange it. What an excellent thought. Permissions would have to be granted, and terms would have to be agreed to, but I got a guy!

Words of Star Trek, et al.

One thing in Common
With the Written Word
Is that Letters and Sounds
Are what's Seen and Heard

So many Languages
Ways to Say
And the Letters and Sounds?
In the World, 6909* different Ways

We speak Different Tongues here
On this Forum of Ours
Most, Science Fiction,
With other Thread "Babel Towers"

We like to think, Always
That our meaning is Clear
That our prose is momtaz**
That All will Adhere

When that's not the Case
When Our Meaning is Muddled
Welcome to "Mushkila"
Arabic for "Trouble"

Sometimes we do Seek It
Confrontation and Strident
Other times we Mistake It
And attempt to Make Right

But, Sometimes it Happens
For No Other Reason
Then "Crystal Clear Meaning"
That's Quite out of Season

All of our Tongues
Can be Tied at some time
A Slip here, a Trip there
And words will not "Rhyme"

All we Can do
Is to try Very Hard
To Listen and Speak
And keep Meaning on Guard

When we Falter and Fail
Have the Good Grace to Say
I am Sorry for That
And I Hope its Ok!

Thank you, Sir!

Would that I could be "Awake" more often.

We are a Force, we two. You know this, yes?

The Pen is, indeed, Mightier!...

I've really blossomed ...

Rishon, you make me feel so real
And we hit it off from the start
You like asking me how I feel
But there's no need to try so hard
Even I'm surprise how often we're together
And my friends say they don't see me as much
It's as if you and I are somehow tethered
Though, I'm not prepared to call this 'Love'
Why be so concerned with where we 'stand'?
In some ways, we'll always stay mysterious
Like a douwd, I'm a complicated Man
... It doesn't have to be serious

Delta Rana IV

Serious And Resolute is Kevin
A Clear and Present Mensch
Rishon, His Ever Faithful Mate
Together, Garden and Bench

Uxbridge, the Craggy Surname
That Kevin carried through
Pacifist, a Quaker?
Picard must Sleuth that, too...

Colony Obliterated, 11,000 Lost
What could be The Reason?
What would be The Cost?

Tha Cost was so Horrific, as not to believed
Kev Croaked some 50 Billion
'Cause they took Rishon, you see

Kevin was Douwd, Husnock he would not fight!
Rishon was Human, and we know
Ole' Sapien would rather fight than flight

She died, was lost to Kevin
A Fact he could not Bear
He recreated all of it
His lifelong love affair

The Moral of this Story
Is plainly there to see
Alien Love is Dangerous
Serious or Casually
