ALL SHE WANTS IS ...
by 2takesfrakes

Zzzzzzzzzz ...

"Julian ... are you awake? Just wondering."

Zzzzzzzzzz ...

"I am. And ... I've got a hankering."

... For a sammich?

"I knew you were awake, you sonofabitch!
Oh, Julian ... you know what I'm talking about."

Ezri, you forget: I'm on call, all hours ...
I can't be nodding off, in an emergency

"But this is a matter of utmost urgency!"

Wake me up in another hour - Make it two
Mostly because ... I don't want to spoil you

With Abject Apologies to the Goddess Julie (Maria in "The Sound of Music") and, of course, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II

A Few of my Favorite Things

Star Ships and Shuttles and Bridge Crew Escape Pods
Consoles and Comm-Badges, Warp Drives and Fuel Rods
Photon Torpedoes, the Havoc they bring
These are a few of my Favorite Things

Turbo Lifts, Transporters, Jeffries Tube fixes
Corridors, Auto-Doors, Diagnost-icses
Sick Bay, 10 Forward and "Kohlinar" Bling
These are a few of my favorite things...

Admirals and Ensigns and Alien eyelashes
Klingons and Metrons, Talarians with sashes
Ferengi with Latinum, a Vulcan that sings
These are a few of my Favorite Things

When the Borg fight, when the Shields sing (harmonics)
When the Bridge is Smashed
I simply remember my Favorite Things,
And then I don't feeeeeeel, so bad.....

~~thank you, thank you very much...I'll be here all Time Line!

My father was never the most sentimental of Men
But when I was little we'd go fishing on weekends
As he drove us to the river, he'd sit me on his lap
Letting me turn the wheel, when there was no traffic
He'd say, "Henry, remember how this all looks, now
This is our hometown"

And we'd catch sunnies, under an old, wooden bridge
Those days didn't last, as I couldn't stay a kid
I got older and met a girl named Sally, instead
Studied to be an engineer and tried to get ahead
Did well enough that I got married one day
We packed our things and we moved away

It wasn't all that long before we had a son of our own
And I'd let him steer, if we were on the street alone
But he got a little too old to be doing that, anymore
So, yesterday, I was driving with him to the shore
I said, "Johnny, remember how this all looks, now
This is our hometown"

Nice...so nice...

And thank you for the Dedication, my Friend!

I could "see" the pictures you were drawing with your words.

Substantive, indeed!

Curious, some people's need to jab and criticize
Reasons why include, "C'mon, Man, Deal or Go Inside!"
But why the need and why assume the words are Justified?
When no offense was offered, nor an invite to be snide.

Perhaps the reasons lie inside the "self" of Criticizer
Pretending to just comment or "point out", just being Nice, ...er?
Posting veiled contempt or naked insult, Bare Incisor
Words of hidden 'genda, or more obvious Collider

Why we can't give comment to each other's words: Civility?
What's inside of some of us that needs to toss Humility?
We don't even know each other, Why the bad Duality?
When did we give reason to distort our "Prose Reality"

Maybe part of what is wrong with things we see these days
It's possible the key to sighting undesirable ways
Should start with what we see reflecting back inside our gaze
And choose to change the plan for going nicer through our days.

DISCOVER THE BEAUTY OF GERMANY IN STAR TREK

Watching STAR TREK, one quickly realises Germany's place in it
And that is to provide Nazis, there seems to be no escaping it
But is this all that Germany of the future can ever provide?
Surely, STAR TREK could suggest something of its softer side
It does: in 2155, the German capitol hosted a Vulcan consulate
And "USS Berlin" is the name of more than one Starfleet vessel
In TNG, the Moon has a city on its surface, called New Berlin
So, here and there, STAR TREK tries to give some love to Germans

I, myself, have been to Germany and experienced its beauty, first-hand
Whilst cross-country skiing in what's known as Garmisch-Partenkirchen
These German mountains, valleys, water and sky are simply unparalleled
I went there looking for nothing but a good time and discovered myself
Neither Germany, or History, itself, should forget the sins of its past
But if the future of STAR TREK, Gene Roddenberry's vision, is to last
Then all of the Human race must strive together for such illumination
Not just peppered here and there, but in every corner of every nation

Congratulations on a thought provoking musing that unites touches of an imagined future, experiences from the present day, deeply felt, and a reflection of the weight of history, to provide a very effective and pertinent mosaic of a land that one wouldn't necessarily expect to find so tellingly examined in these environs.

Thank you, for sharing the inspiration!!!!!:techman:

frakes!!!!

With Drone's permission, should we put his Post as one of the entries in the "Dedications" page for our Poetry Book???

Nice!

As unlikely as I'm ever going to be associated with poetry (this was my first entry here), in any forum, I would be honored and truly touched by any such accolade bestowed by you genuinely inventive and creative souls. Thank you very much for even the consideration!!!!

To Craft, Perchance to Rhyme

Writing Fiction, Fantasy, Fact
Easy, yes, for Some to Track
Others think they have a Lack
Still Others just don't have the Knack

But scribing Rhyme is a different Creature
Songs and Sonnets, Rhyme they Feature
Rhyme can act as Feeling Teacher
Secrets, Thoughts...Rhyme is a Breech-er

When we try to be Poetic
Where we find our Muse, Prophetic
How we form our words, Mnemetic?
Why not simply "flow"?...just let it!

Sharing inner Self with "Self"
Can be a "hazard" to our "Health"
We do not always share the 'Wealth"
Even to ourselves we "Stealth"

Trust Yourself to Share Your Inner
Words will come, don't let them Simmer
Give a glimpse, just give a Glimmer
Let us see what Rhyme will Trigger

I look forward to it, HIjol ...

And Drone,
Thank you for your comments regarding my most recent entry. The STAR TREK poetry thread is like none other in the forum. It offers a different way to talk about STAR TREK, whenever you want. All of STAR TREK. With other threads, it's just that one topic and there's only so much to really say on it, that's why they all get so easily derailed. Not so, "here." STAR TREK, in its entirety, is the subject matter and best of all? It's one-sided. You've got the mic, as it were. I enjoy that aspect of it, enormously.

HIjol enthusiastically invited us all to contribute to this thread and it's the only thread where I read everyone's contributions ... and actually enjoy them! Of course, I've taken to having my entries tarted up with pretty pictures, but the poems I've read and liked the most had no such embellishments. Because they know that when they click on the link to STAR TREK poetry, there's only one thing that matters ... it's rhyme time!

Another kind of Drug, a "drug" Troi liked. A lotta!
The kind of Drug that's "good" for you...
Choco-Chocoladda

Sure she was Imzadi
And loved her Willie lotsie
But she loved nothing, NOTHING more, than
Choco-Chocolattie

Her Mother made her crazy
Her patients? In a frenzy?
But mellow was her Future world, with
Choco-Choca-fancy

Bathing in its goodness
Shampoo in it? Makes sense!
When she was off-Duty, Troi craved some
Choco-Chocolat-intense

The moral of this CocoaBean
The reason for this VanillaScene
The recipe Troi craves more than All, is
Chocolate, Chocolate in Everything!!!

Having faith, or being Spiritual, isn't unnatural behaviour
Judaism, in fact, was that of my personal Lord & Saviour
It's lasted for thousands of years and it's still around
As are other belief systems that many others have found
Whether they're a Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim or an atheist
Personal beliefs of every kind will continue to persist
I find comfort in Roman Catholicism, that is, Christianity
Whilst true that it's sometimes been abused by Humanity
The basic principles of love, forgiveness and brotherhood
Have done much for what's known as The Common Good
Encouraging the faithful to be disciplined and to succeed
I can't help but believe that spirituality is a Human need
Maybe STAR TREK will come to this realisation, next series
Including Human characters with Real Life religious beliefs

Beverly, whenever our eyes meet, it's "message received"
The fact that we've never been involved can't be believed
But this is looking like the night that we'll cross the border
And I've stocked up on Viagra™ as per the doctor's orders!

Pity that you're not acquainted with The Picard Manoeuver
As you're fairly well-preserved, for being a motherly cougar
I see your beautiful face, just beneath those care-worn lines
Remembering how hot you were, when you were Jack's wife

You know from my yearly physicals, I'm in excellent condition
Able to take on any physical challenge for any kind of mission
I never disappoint - just ask Vash, yourself, and she'll tell you
I've great mileage, as most Frenchman of my years should do

Be assured that I am a gentleman who's careful and discreet
I know this "romantic" setting isn't why we're feeling the heat
My Ready Room seems quite formal, except when you're in it
Then, suddenly, the possibilities are a holodeck's - without limit!
