I find the Picard intro very good overall.

The theme specifically not nearly as much, but it is growing on me each week. And contrary to some people's complaints I find it does have an interesting and hummable melody that is appropriate to the show, which pretty much automatically makes it better than DSC, ENT and TAS. I'd also consider it potentially better than TNG simply because the TNG theme was so short and repetitive that I've grown utterly bored with it over the years.

Overall, I say:

Voy
DS9
Reboot Movies
TOS

Picard
TNG

ENT
DSC
TAS

When I first listened to the intro theme I have to admit that I found it quite boring. And it was kinda reminiscent of the DISCO Theme in a strange way. Those were my superficial observations but now I know I was wrong.

But since it has changed and it has become one of my favorite intro themes for a Trek series. It is quite lyrical like the first three episodes, it is mysterious in the beginning, then it becomes very passionate and lovely from second '18, at '38 it sounds romantically and moving into something more bombastic and vast like space, then at minute one it becomes more mysterious again like there is a hidden thing or sth to solve in the emptiness of space, at 1:15 it says that it will end on a good note and satisfying, at 1:26 it is passionate adventureous again with a romantic quality culminating in the known flute which brings love to it. I hope this does not sound silly. It is the first time I'm writing down my associations with a Trek theme.

So, yes. I really love the theme and I also dig the score of the first part of season one. Jeff Russo is able to helm Trek music. :bolian:

I voted average. Also, I really miss the old days when Star Trek intros started with captains telling us about their missions.

I absolutely love it. It’s sweepingly majestic, noble with hints of mystery. I think it’s the perfect mirror to Picard’s personality and the mysterious adventures out ‘there’. I’m not sure what ‘mode’ it’s in....possibly Dorian and drifting into Ionian for the more majestic sections....I’m not sure as my music theory and ear is a little rusty. I downloaded it and play it over and over while cooking or waiting for the kettle to boil.

it's sonic wallpaper, lacking a distinct and/or hummable theme.

Really? The motif played initially on the cello is incredible hummable.....I can’t stop, in fact. Laaah da daaah dee deeee dah daaaah dah deeeeee.....See!

Music is a matter of taste. Some like the intro, some don't.
Yeah, but as a forum, it’s good to discuss and make ones point, don’t you think? Everything is a matter of taste, when you think about it.....

What I’m not so keen on is there’s always background music playing in nearly every scene....it’s as though the makers don’t think our attention can be held without the mood-setting effect of music. Most of the time, the dialogue and acting are more than sufficient. This seems to be a trend in modern dramas...the need for multisensorial stimulation!

When I first heard the theme as I was watching Remembrance, I got tears in my eyes, even before hearing the last few seconds with the TNG/TMP theme played on the flute. This theme is beautiful, lonely and wistfully nostalgic even without constantly referencing old musical cues, with a sense of mystery underscoring everything. This musical style, especially its usage during Picard's dream sequences was part of why I described the pilot as reminiscent of a Darabont Stephen King-adaptation in the Star Trek universe. I like it very much.

I agree that it has memorable, hummable motifs. To me, it sounds almost like something from the movies.

The main melody is gorgeous. I am not a fan of the arrangement. I would prefer that it remained simple and understated throughout, rather than swelling up with a larger orchestra.

Last week, it occurred to me that the Picard theme is the TNG theme in a different mood.

The theme and opening credits are amazing. It would be a toss up between it and Disco which one I like best.

I think it's appropriate for the show. I like the beginning and the end. The middle though seems rather bland. Kind of torn on it to be fair.

Personally i think Jeff Russo is a bit underrated. I love the main themes for Discovery and Picard, precisely because they are different than what came before. Also, the guy knows how to score. The mirror universe theme and the theme that is played when we first get our look at the Borg cube in Picard are absolutely brilliant
