Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Just joined today,

Picard just oozes class for me. The storylines and how iconic characters play their roles. Hope their will be a spinoff from this series

Currently watched the first two seasons and will be digging into season three soon

I'm just going to throw this out here. Red meat for the attack dogs.

I don't understand the romulans fear of computer stuff. I thought in TNG and DS9 they had advanced computers that did more than just numbers as mentioned in the show.

I'm doing a rewatch and this bit annoyed me.

It is amusing that in TNG Admiral Jarok tells Data that the Romulans have "a host of cyberneticists" who would have loved to be in the same room as an android of his sophistication. For a society supposedly so terrified of AI and advanced computers they seem to have a lot of cyberneticists.
Only the best to learn how to eradicate their very existence!

I was going to look for that clip on YouTube on my break at work, but you beat me to the punch.

It's almost like societies and races can have multiple attitudes and groups within them, and those groups might be at odds with each other's goals.

I know, it's shocking because every single human Meet is identical with no variation.

But they make it a very explicit trait in Picard as if the Romulans are like luddites

I thought it was just AI.

There was a line I think in the very first episode where one of the Romulans says "our computers only deal with numeric values" or something meaning that well they're only glorified calculating machines and nothing more because there is no such thing as robots in Romulan society, words to that effect
