Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

I don't think so, I have sensed sexual agression towards Seven in this season from Shaw. As someone who has been raped I can easily sense when men are doing what Shaw does.
I am very sorry for the trauma you suffered, however I think it may be clouding your view, I have seen NOTHING at all like that in ANY part of any character in this season or maybe I’m just not looking for it. Can you give an example?

Shaw was aggressive towards everyone who upset his meter and control.

He was straight up abusive towards Picard and Riker.

I really don't think there is any misogynist motive behind that, nor would the writers do so, nor would Jeri Ryan, SPS and Jon Frakes, all well respected equality and gender equity promoters, do that.

Deadnaming someone is a sign of sexual agression and in my experence leads to cis-males raping. Maybe you have to go through it to understand it.

He was doing that because she was Borg, he deadnamed Picard also by calling him Locutus. He's suffering from PTSD and is expressing his anger towards the Borg from his trauma at Wolf 359

I understand that part, but I saw it as him deadnaming Picard so he would not come off as obviously sexually agressive if he only deadnamed Seven. He used her preferred name only whe he was dying, as he realized he has no chance to continue to groom Seven. Perhaps it's my ultra tuned warning radar going off that I use on all men due to my experences. I often try try to look deeper into shows that what is shown on screen. Vadic said shaw has PTSD and is damaged. She was amazed he was functional at all. That makes Shaw a wildcard and dangerous to me in specific situations.

His complete meltdown and episode on the holodeck in front of the crew at Picard and Jack should tell you his problem in regards to Seven and Picard is their Borg background and has nothing whatsoever to do with some gender or sexual assault theory

As people should know, Rape is not about sex, it's about power. Shaw deadnaming Seven was about power over her. Hated leads to Rape.

Let me say this extremely clearly. Star Trek would not give a role model position and example of goodness to someone that has a rape motive that would never be implied, that would never be a sub text, and it would never ever be something that would be endorsed as part of a persons character that isn’t a villain.

Or maybe you are reaching……..Shaw isn’t deadnaming as the term is defined:
call (a transgender person) by their birth name when they have changed their name as part of their gender transition.

I really don’t think the writers are using this as an allegory for anything transgender related either.

It's not really anything like that at all. Seven spent 4 years serving on a Starfleet vessel, she also had the accumulated knowledge of the Borg up until 2373 and a decade of experience as a Fenris Ranger. Seven was quite frankly over qualified to have to attend the Academy.

Plus, there was her eighteen years of military experience with the Borg.

Field commissions are a thing - e.g. Kira; Picard himself got bumped from helmsman to captain. Seven received one on the Stargazer last season.

Janeway gave the Maquis field commissions on Voyager.

This is pretty cool, I was never a big Voyager fan so only watched it while it was airing so a lot of it was fuzzy and I didn't remember this.
