Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Or it's just Trek's Speed of Plot thing, which has been going on since day one:shrug:
Trek also slows down warp at the speed of the plot. TOS established in 'That Which Survives' that 1701 can travel 990.7 light years in 11.337 hours, or 87.39 light years per hour.

At this speed, 70,000 light years shouldn't be too bad for Voyager and Voyager should have reached Earth in about 33 and a half days

I think the only time I've seen warp travel times being fairly consistent with the background material was the teaser of Vaulting Ambition in Season 1 of Discovery, when they travelled 27 million kilometers at Warp 1 (said to be equal to the speed of light) to the ISS Charon. The scene lasted for about one and a half minutes, which just so happens to roughly be the amount of time needed to travel 27 million kilometers at 1 lightspeed.

ETA: 27 million kilometers seems so overly specific that I can only think of the writers intentionally using the length of the scene as a basis for calculating it.

In the example I cited, neither instance was actually background material. All the calculated times in 'That Which Survives' TOS are stated on screen by Spock himself. Furthermore, the 70,000 light years and the decades it supposedly takes to get back home in Voyager are in dialogue itself. The inconsistency can be spotted by anyone decent at math who watches both "That Which Survives" and "Caretaker" and knows nothing else about Trek nor read a single reference guide.

That can’t be right. DISCO doesn’t do science.;)

Warp travel times have had a MASSIVE upgrade in the time of Picard since the TNG days, in-universe. Star Trek Prodigy, which takes place between Nemesis and Picard, shows that Starfleet ships can now go to the Delta Quadrant pretty much on a whim.

Aren't those ships using Quantum Slipstreams though?

Rhien on the Memory-Alpha discord server tried perspective correcting the map on the Eleos. Not very readable, but there seems to be a range for the Romulan Supernova

It occurs to me that the writers missed an opportunity to add a layer to Shaw's insisting on calling Seven Hansen. When being chosen for the life pod he could have been "Lucky number seven" rather than 10. But they haven't resolved that bit at all so perhaps they thought that was too on the nose and merely a person being called by any number is enough to trigger anxiety.

Honestly Shaw's going through some serious trauma right now to the point any more Borg callbacks are kind of unnecessary. Vadic did a real number on him and he was a physical and emotional wreck, and it's implied she tortured the command codes out of him somehow on the turbolift ride.

I don't think she needs the command codes (she isn't Starfleet -- the computer wouldn't have recognized her).

She just beat the guy to within an inch of his life! :(

RLM have dropped a new PICARD review for episodes 5-7

They're... concerned. And unfortunately they didn't get the memo about the season having a three act structure (1-4, 5-8, 9-10), and are instead breaking for a new review installment after what the advance reviewers called the weakest episode of the season.

Also they get a fun dig in with Alex Kurtzman about SFA...

EDIT after finishing watching... they feel like the future of Star Trek is on a precipice... they are threatening to shatter a Star Trek commemorative plate if they are unhappy with the end of season 3, but if they are happy the plate will survive, and they'll potentially support Legacy. They want "#FATEOFTHEPLATE" to trend.

Considering their 302-304 review got 750K views, that would be a good endorsement to have.

Does anyone have the slightest inkling as to whether any further Star Trek tidings (spin-off news in particular) will be revealed or hinted at this eve in honor of First Contact Day, or shall I bid you all adieu and retire to my slumber and hope to wake up to a new trailer or promo in the morning?

I wouldn’t hold my breath at this point.
