Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

This is a good watch. They took Michael's input on board for Worf.

Just watched it. I do agree with the Samurai take on Worf, how he and Michelle Hurd get along and that definitely helps the on screen chemistry, and the fact that Dorn channeled his inner spiritual journey in to the performance.

And Picard himself was recreated from the transporter records when he was converted into energy in “Lonely Among Us”. His original body has been gone since 2364.

Although I will admit I’m still not sure why Q wanted Soong to kill Picard either.

Picard memory was copied. So android Picard is only a copy of the real Picard. Picard and his original conscience died. This is only a copy.

One could make the argument that every time someone is transported, the original is killed when the matter disappears, the memories are transferred via a data stream and reborn every single time. Using that logic, Picard is a copy of a copy of a copy ad infinitum.

Or, doesn’t matter because it wasn’t something Kurtzman came up with, so it’s okay*.

*I know that Kurtzman didn’t write the season one finale of Picard. Making a point.

The season 1 finale really does bungle the explanation, leaving the fate of one of the most prominent characters in the entire franchise way too open for interpretation.

At least the way season 3 is approaching it is as a transfer of consciousness. Would Q have even bothered in season 2 if Picard was just a copy, and his consciousness was dead? And at least he's in a Blade Runner Replicant / a humanoid Cylon body, so it's one step above a clone and not a full on Data type android body.

It's far from ideal, but I can live with it with everything else in season 3 going as well as it is.

I think that's the key metric, or as key as we are going to get, anyway. Q, for all his pros and cons, is the closest to "word of God" that you are going to get in universe.

And Miles O'Brien was replaced in 2371 by an alternate timeline version of himself from several hours into the future who survived while the original O'Brien died of radiation exposure.

Yeah. That was a cool episode. I also liked the one where obrien murdered a imaginary friend he had in some alien induced fake memories. That poor guy went through a lot when he got to DS9.

Yeah, Mike Okuda and the team on Season 3 have turned out some of the greatest LCARS ever seen.

I didn't realize Okada had designed them. I thought someone just copied the aesthics if the old ones and updated them. Cool I'm glad Okuda was there. He did a marvelous job as usual.

Fun fact: The bridge of the Shrike uses the same set as La Sirena.

Which is probably why we never see La Sirena's cockpit anymore. They probably had to tear down too much of it to make the Shrike bridge. But they left enough of La Sirena so we could see Raffi there.

Didn’t we see the cockpit when Raffi was communicating with Worf in the first couple of eps?

It’s the lower portion of the La Sirena’s set that has been converted into the Shrike bridge.
