Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

It would bug me if they rejected him for politics. He can think all he wants. Nobody is watching to support Dwight Schulz's political opinions. People just want more Barclay. He was maybe their most popular guest character. If this season is about saying goodbye to TNG he should be in it.

Barclay was the most popular recurring crewmember if you don't count O'Brien, but most popular guest character? That'd be Q.

I just don't see any pressing story reason to introduce Reg at this point, unless they want him hanging out there like a creeper trying to snap up Deanna now that her marriage to Riker may be on the rocks.

Does there need to be a pressing story reason to have him make an appearance? He could just be working in the fleet museum and Geordie passes him in a corridor and he stammers something to him.

I know it’s not going to happen, it just would’ve been nice.

And honestly, didn't Barclay receive more of a fitting send-off in his multiple appearances on VOY? I mean, he has several entire episodes to himself in that series!

I'm of the opinion that every aspect of a story needs to have a reason, otherwise it's pointless memberberries/ fanwank.

Nothing wrong with a bit of fan service every now and then. I don’t particularly think having Wesley rock up in S2 did anything for the overall story but it was nice to see him.

No offense to Wil, but it would have been better if he remembered he was supposed to act and not just be in his "Trek hype man" manic persona he uses for The Ready Room.

I think Season 2 was actively made worse from his inclusion. Some complete rando stopping in and recruiting Kore would have been much less fourth-wall breaking.

And even if they do...big deal.

Trek IS basically one giant callback to previous work and has been for decades. Even gratuitous cameos with little or no reason for happening won't vaporize the fabric of reality for this franchise.
Nope. Makes it easier to hit skip.

Barclay can be in charge of the Moriarty hologram or chief engineer of the Enterprise or basically fill in for any random Starfleet officer you might need. I kind of like the idea that he was Geordi's best man at his wedding and maybe the cameo amounts to Geordi talking to him over supspace before getting a warning that Picard is coming to the station.

Barclay's the villain Starfleet's long since forgotten isn't it? Vadic must be his vengeful wife.

Sounds like a cameo just to have a cameo in my opinion.
