Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

It seems like they’re usually up at around 2 am eastern on the Amazon paramount + channel but aren’t up until 3 am on the actual paramount plus app.

I'll try to see if that works since I have Amazon Prime.

PIC Season 3 is the last time I'm going to be crazy enough to watch an episode as soon as it drops. Unfortunately, the deeper I get into my 40s, the harder it's becoming for me to bounce back from being awake at crazy hours. Middle-age sucks. 10 years ago, 20 years ago, I could do it no problem.

You can see his eye implants in the various trailers.

They're probably added in post-production instead of contacts, which is why you can't see them in that set photo.

I kind of wish they would give him the visor for one more time for some tech reason. The visor looked cool IMO. Geordi was also my second favorite character on the show after Picard. The list went like this.

1 Picard
2 Geordi
3 Data
4 Riker
5 Worf
6 Troi
7 Crusher
8 Yar
9 Wesley

I wish that in a person on person fire fight, Geordi would "Pretend" his optical implants were going haywire and asked to get his VISOR out so that he can see properly. Obviously his Optical implants would have a pretend to malfunction mode built in.

Then Geordi would bust out a brand new set of VISORs that has a set of Micro Phaser Strips built into the edge that uses a Synaptic Transceiver to activate and fire on any target he can see.

He would be able to even have Wide-Beam capability to take out large groups.

Geordi would be the ultimate "Bad-Ass" Grandpa Admiral who could 'Pretend' that he's in trouble, just to whip out his trusty weapon in disguise, his "weaponized" VISOR that offers all sorts of fancy functions but, according to normal tricorder scans, resembles a standard VISOR to the sensors. You'd have to dissect the new "Weaponized" VISOR or know exactly what to look for to understand it's real functionality.

I am sure their isn't a Trek fan out their that didn't at least once put a hair band over their eyes and pretend they were Geordi back in the day. Between that and using my flip calculator to be both Kirk's communicator and Al's handlink connected to Ziggy it's kind of fun to think back to some of the simple things we have done to amuse ourselves from time to time.

Bloody hell. Very asocial... They really really don't want anyone being distracted from watching the CBS primetime lineup... That's doable for people on the west coast, but the east coast people would need to wake up early before going to work / school etc lest they find themselves spoiled when they open social media.
It's On Demand, so people can watch it whenever they want after it releases. Release time hardly matters.

No, P+ simply switched the normal streaming model of drop times, which has been midnight or overnight for many years.

Personally, I prefer the prime time drop.

Does anyone know if P+ is continuing the practice of streaming series in 4k on supported devices started by SNW season 1? This would look so cinematic in 4k.

They plotted out an episode with Naomi Wildman as a Fenris ranger, but couldn’t fit it anywhere in the season

Scarlet doesn’t act anymore, so I wonder if they would have convinced her to cone back or recast

We don’t know if Pic Season 3 was mastered in 4k.

Rolling Stone has a good review up today from Alan Sepinwall. Not super spoiler heavy but has light some light spoilers.

The biggest spoiler I saw was
that he says the character we see in episode 5 is a recurring 90s Trek character that forces Picard to face and revisit a decision he made way back then. I'm guessing this is not Moriarty since there's no reason to be coy about that.

I think it's pretty clear who it's gonna be. Let's look at recurring characters on TNG:
  • Can't be Q or Guinan - already been used
  • Gowron is dead, as are pretty much all of the Klingons that Picard personally interacted with.
  • Hugh is also dead.
  • Lwaxana Troi's actress is dead.
  • Lore and Moriarty are used elsewhere.
  • Extremely unlikely to be either of the O'Briens, Pulaski, or Alexander.
  • Can't see any reason they'd use Nurse Ogawa, Barclay, Nechayev,
It's
Ro Laran! Biggest recurring character by far who would make sense, given she's someone who Picard had a close relationship with and who ultimately betrayed him.

There's an outside possibility of
Sela, or Jack Crusher (with some alternate universe shenanigans), but I don't think either would work as well.

I actually have thought Ro would eb a great choice to bring back. One she was popular, two her character Maquis aspect touches upon elements in TNG, DS9, and VOY. And not only is Forbes still acting, she can act the hell out of character. Thats important. If would ideally want someone who can really tear up a scene.

They did release the first two seasons of Disco during "prime time hours." Everyone complained that they were "adhering to an outdated network model" and that they should "get with the times and behave like the streaming service they are."

Guess someone will complain no matter what they do.

The way it’s worded makes me think it’s not necessarily a recurring character from TNG (or at least exclusively TNG) that is appearing.

Ongoing proof that the only way to win is to no play the game.

I mean, its not like they didn't have other streaming services to draw experience from. Seems very weird to adhere to an old model like that as if they were monitoring viewing figures like a Nielson rating.

Usually these days they monitor views after a week with each episode, or after the whole season drops because people like to binge watch now.
