Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

I think the main problem is they explore Picard's backstory in away that doesn't really feel earned or is something that has really effected the character we have watched over the years. Q is misused. They have like 6 or so stories going on at once yet they all feel like filler. They recast Guinan and she never feels like the real Guinan. Social commentary wasn't very deep. Also it felt like they all crammed into one episode.

I do have another positive. Stuff between Jurati and the Borg Queen actually works. Rios had nice chemistry with one of the guess characters. Also the second episode goes to a dark alternate timeline and that was not so bad either.

Oh god I think most Star Trek shows are very guilty of this, of cramming several plots into one episode or series at one time or another but it really does feel more obvious with shows like Picard and Disco. Doesn't put me off that much but I can see I'm going to find this second series a bit of a bumpy ride.

I feel like if the plots feel like filler that means the writers were struggling, that's just my opinion.

I would honestly go in blind, don't let other people's opinions influence you.

I would agree. Just because I didn't like it doesn't many others might actually like it or maybe they don't like it but still like it a little more than me. My advice when it comes to Trek is to watch it all no matter what. I mean it is Star Trek. Even bad Star Trek can have good in it.

I'm in the last half of the final episode and honestly it's not great. But it's not bad either. I can't quite put my finger on it it's like they had an idea of a series long story but had to cram in at least 4 ongoing plots to pad out the time. It is definitely better than the first series but not by much.

Lore looks so old. He should not. In 2022, when even amateurs can create deep-fake, they don't do that. I don't understand.

Deep fake's make for a fun few minute video but for anything actually in a film/television show I'd write them out completely. The first thing you'll notice in any of those videos is that a deep fake removes a ton of expression and emotion from an actor's face as well as giving them quite a plastic-y texture to their skin. For most things in an actual show I'd say it should be completely avoided until the technology dramatically improves.

It's very easy to write an excuse for Lore looking like that into the show so just go that approach instead.

And so we are done, and the second series is done.
I have a lot of mixed feelings about series 2.
Better than the first series but not by much is all I shall say so far. I will edit later.

So I take it the green thing at the start of the series and end was the Borg doorway they opened to reach our plucky heroes, and that thing at the end is what they were trying to stop. It seemed like a huge setup for the next series big bad though, which it probably is...

Didn't someone saying a dying Q would leave a mark people could see as a nova or something, like they did in Voyager?

It isn't. There are currently no plans to follow up on that.

No, and indeed we've already have evidence of Q dying without causing a supernova, like Amanda's parents in True Q. What happened on Voyager was a by product of the Continuum being in civil war, essentially their battles were causing those supernovas, not their deaths.

OK thank you .......

I thought by the season 3 trailer that conduit might play a part in the season or something my bad.

And maybe Lore wants to look more human in appearance? After being reassembled at some point following the events of "Descent, Part II(TNG)" in early 2370 perhaps he saw being able to infiltrate a group of humans or humanoids more easily without suspicion of being an artificial life form as an advantage? Or maybe he wanted to one-up his brother and do something Data never did: alter his epidermis to appear truly human?
Maybe Lore didn’t have any Android skin for some reason so he found a Soong descendant to have a face and hair transplant from? A bit like when the Borg Queen put flesh on Data in First contact to tempt him with humanity?

It could be Altan Inigo Soong‘s face?
