Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Indeed.

To have momentum, something needs to be progressing and there's no sign that 'Star Trek: Legacy' has gained any traction at all. About a year on from PIC S03 and it's all crickets and tumbleweeds.

Six months of that year was tied up in an actors'/writers' strike.

Everything stopped during that time. It takes time to get things going again.

Sure.

I’m not denying that it could happen. Merely disputing the idea that ‘Legacy’ has momentum. It doesn’t, at the time of writing .

The momentum matches SNW almost exactly, even removing the strike.

Everyone commenting on this board has zero information on all talks that go behind closed doors.
It's all just our feelings at this point, stemming from whether or not we're positive and hopeful or a wet blanket and negative.

How long was it between DSC season 2, the fan petition for a Pike show and then the announcement?

I would be shocked if Legacy in some form or fashion doesn't become a thing. But it does not seem to be one now. Its true thought we don't know what's happening behind the scenes.

I seem to recall that right after Discovery season 2, a Pike spinoff seemed like a sure thing. Maybe not officially, at least not right away. But, there was something in the air.

There was all the talk about how the Bridge of the Enterprise was made differently. That it was steel construction and not something that would have been made for only a couple of appearance. It was built for a higher purpose than just a couple guests appearances.

Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, and Rebecca Romijn talked about the possibility of a spinoff in an almost teasing fashion, barely containing their glee.... like they knew.

Plus, Paramount was spending money like drunken sailors. Strange New Worlds was pretty much a sure-thing, long before any petitions even started.

At least that's my read of it.

I'm not getting that feeling this time. Yes, there's the petition and a very vocal group of fans, but that's it.

It's pretty much radio silences from Paramount. The cast and crew certainly aren't gleefully teasing a spinoff. Hell, some of them seem like they're begging for work. The sets were all destroyed, save for the Ent-D. Matalas is working on other projects, and Paramount is in the process of cutting cost.

If Star Trek: Legacy has any momentum, it's moving at a glacial pace.

Season two of Discovery ran from January 17 - April 18 2019
The second season of Short Treks, with three shorts set with Pike's Enterprise crew ran from October 2019 to January 2020.
Alex Kurtzman acknowledged that development was occurring in January 2020.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was ordered to series in May 2020.

Season three of Picard ran from February 16 - April 20 2023.
Lack of discussion on it, even with the CBS Chief's and Matalas' recent comments do not necessarily mean that something isn't happening with Legacy. It means we're not hearing about it. And there's probably a lot of moving pieces that need to be dealt with before an announcement occurs. Its not just apparent. Maybe Matalas doesn't know anything about it because he isn't a part of it. That's pure speculation on my part but it is a possibility.

And I'm not a huge proponent for Legacy. But I'm not blind to the idea that in some form or fashion, this likely will occur. Whether its an actual series, a TV movie or miniseries, I would be shocked if an announcement doesn't occur by Star Trek Day in September.

With Paramount up for sale any Trek predictions at this point is going to be hazy. Hopefully when Trek is sold the new bosses will listen to the fans and give us a Legacy show. If not we can only hope anything they come up with is at least really good.

Akiva Goldsman was also pushing internally for a Pike series since before DSC season 2.

This is correct.

The only ones pushing for Legacy are Matalas and his team, Frakes, Ryan, Hurd, Stashwick and a few others.

And Frakes is the only one still employed by them, and isn't on Goldsman's level of influence.

I don't get the impression any of them are really "pushing" for Legacy. A few have said they're open to doing such a show should it happen, but no one seems to be actively pursuing it. Indeed, Matalas seems accepting of the fact it likely won't happen.

What would constitute "pushing"?

They've all been vocally supportive of it. I don't know what more they can do.

Since the Voyager-B appeared in a graphic aboard La Sirena in PIC Season 3 this is appropriate for this thread. The size of Janeway's Voyager compared to the ship class to which the Voyager-B belongs and separated by only about 20 years.
