Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Figured we'd see the real Tuvok in the final episode, at Frontier Day. Would be great if we get to see others, like Kim, Janeway, The Doctor (who still doesn't have a name) and Torres.

People elsewhere on the internet are saying Marina Sirtis feels short-changed with Picard season 3. Anyone hear anything about this?

I don’t quite understand why, in combat situations, these Changelings always maintain humanoid form. They’ll shapeshift to imitate some other character, but they never turn into, I don’t know, the famous (i.e. I just made it up) Mican Snapworm that can use its whiplash-arm to instantly kill an opponent at twenty paces. I don’t think the revelations in tonight’s episode change the fact that they ought to be able to.

Yeah, don't tell them about the wonderfully lethal properties of gases they could transform into that could be inhaled...

Well, if Odo could be an aurora...

Yeah. It's fine. There wasn't much more they could do with Troi.

They didn't know what to do with her during S1. She was literally standing on a soap box and talking down to Picard about his privilege.

Could you blame her? Everybody else gets these meaty and challenging evolutions to their characters or gets to re-explore the core relationships in the cast.

She... gets to be a whiny mom stereotype in a flashback, have about 3 lines in a message with Will and then a damsel in distress.

Picard S3 has done Troi DIRTY, so far. Like worse than the TNG films dirty. Unless something changes in the last few episodes, I don't see any reason she SHOULDN'T be unhappy, unless there was some scheduling issue that kept her from taking part.

It's complete disrespect.

I thought they'd said Marina could only film for a short period due to Covid or something?

I found an interview here she said she filmed two months or something around there. I know Matalas said she didn't get there to film in person till the 6th episode.

I saw another interview here she said she felt "cherished" this season but then other people have been saying in other appearances she's acting like she didn't have the best experience. I guess we'll find out soon enough, but I have thought it was odd she was nowhere in promo for the show and hasn't done any appearances or interviews for it. It could just be because of her living in the UK but who knows, especially since Brent Spiner couldn't be there in person for stuff and just zoomed in.

Matalas said the back five episodes of the season are about Troi (which is odd since she's appeared for about a minute), so it seems she has some good stuff in the last three episodes.

I'm going to assume now that Data asked to be killed in Season 1 because he foresaw or was already aware of what Altan had planned for him, as revealed in Season 3.

I'm betting they didn't even have Season 2, let alone 3, mapped out yet.

I will say that, even though I am very much enjoying this season of Picard, I miss there being a variety of tone shifts in a season of Star Trek. With only 10 episodes and a single story arc, there isn't any room for light-hearted diversion or side story. On DSC last season, we did at least get the side story with Tilly and those cadets to provide some respite from the grim nature of the season arc. That's kind of the thing with this season of Picard as well is that it has to remain grim due to the tight episode allotment and even tight time frame in-universe as well. SNW has accomplished this, as well as LD, although the latter series by its nature remains light-hearted.
