Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Done Two of One. I really liked this. It's actually quite rare for Star Trek to play around with narrative structure and tell a story in a non-linear way.

I am loving the Jurati/BQ stuff. It's all electric, all the time. Picard talking to Renee was nice as well.

Good episode. The only part that's drawing me out of it all is the Soong/Kore thread. Number one, I really don't need Brent Spiner to be in this show again. I think it would have been better with a new character/actor. Two, well, same for Soji/Kore. I actually really liked Soji and like the actor, but it's distracting to see her back in another role when we've already seen her as Soji in this season...

Likewise Laris actually.

It's not a deal breaker for me. I'm still enjoying the show. But I find the idea of keeping the cast the same while rotating them through different roles to be... more than odd. Is it a COVID thing where they could only have so many people in long term roles or something?

Anyway, as I said, not a deal breaker. It is what it is. Still enjoying the show.

Next is Monsters. Many knees jerked after this one I recall. Some said it was the worst episode in the entire history of Star Trek and a YouTuber took off his Starfleet uniform in disgust.

I look forward to it. :D

It seems like Monsters is generally rated in the same sort of area as Watcher and Two of One, so if you enjoyed those two episodes I think you'll be fine. Also don't worry, the YouTuber has gone back to wearing his Starfleet uniform now, he's recovered his love of Star Trek. It took him a while, but he got over the episode eventually!

Personally I did think Monsters was the worst episode of the season, but only in a 'something has to be worst' kind of way. Two of One was my second worst episode, partly because the whole concept of a Mission: Impossible style plot to infiltrate an ultra-high security gala and then just kind of hang out felt ridiculous to me. Especially as the whole plan is... to protect someone from incidents that might impact her mental health (which they ultimately fail at, because she has a phone). And Jurati taking over the stage, band and spotlights included, didn't make it seem any less of a parody.

But I liked Raffi noticing that Seven's getting to socialise with people, while she's getting tempted to have a drink. And I liked the brief moments of Jurati having a supervillain in her head. And I liked Picard's speech to Renee. In the end the characters totally saved it for me, and I came away from it thinking 'All the reviews that utterly tore this episode apart are absolutely right but I enjoyed it anyway'.

@Ray Hardgrit I don't know?

I think I'm having a different experience to you guys being able to just consume it, rather than wait week by week by week.

I thought Monsters was fine. Even good. I don't think this season has had a 'bad' episode so far.

James Callis. A trip into Picard's subconscious. Jurati/BQ stuff. And then that mic drop FBI moment at the end.

Maybe, because I have spoiled myself and have read what people thought week on week, but maybe the general word around here has lowered my expectations to the point where PIC S2 is actually better than I thought it would be?

It wins out on Season 1 for me by far.

A new, clearer shot of the Season 3 ship design. The canonical Enterprise-F? A completely different ship?

It ain’t the E, that’s for sure. And I don’t know enough about the STO F to know if it’s that. But of course it’s the Enterprise because what else would it be?

It could be Doug playing coy, but he commented on Facebook saying 'Was the Enterprise-E destroyed and I missed it?" in response to someone asking what Letter comes after E in regards to the bridge.

Yeah, I'm hoping we get the E and it's had a bit of a makeover to make it stand out from the Sovereign class ships that appeared last season.

No reason the E-E couldn't have had a major refit like the OG.
If it is a refit E, then it got a zoggin' big impulse deck that would make the one on the Enterprise B look like nothing. Because there's something at the rear of the saucer that at least makes it look shorter in that area.

I'd have preferred a third nacelle and a BMF gun under the saucer, but oh well.

The saucer looks round in that image to me.
I don't think they'd use an existing design for their new hero ship, they would create their own.
That guy's head is blocking the front part of the saucer, so kinda hard to say.
