Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Discovery will be on a mid-season break after next week until February 10th. That means Picard won't be back in February, but at the end of March/beginning of April most likely...
If there’s no further breaks, discovery season 4 will end March 17th, so Picard will probably start that week or the week after

I thought it was officially announced to be a February '22 premiere date? There's no reason they can't overlap two series. After all, there's a precedent with Disco and Lower Decks (and Prodigy!).

‪‪I don’t believe that Lower Decks ever overlapped with Discovery, and there was a week between LD’s season ending and Prodigy’s premiere. Paramount’s publicity noted that when Prodigy and Discovery were released on the same day, the day of Discovery’s Season 4 premiere, that it was the first time there’s been two Trek series released together in years.

And, it seems like they’re avoiding too much overlap to keep new Trek coming as frequently as possible, as Prodigy went on hiatus right after the Disco premiere, and now Disco is going on hiatus and returning exactly one week after the next set of Prodigy episodes end.

It’s possible that Picard will overlap, but based on their current release patterns and strategies, it feels like a delay until late March is much more likely.

Dates can change.

So, both of you are suggesting that Paramount can't read a calendar and/or miscounted the number of weeks remaining in Disco S4 when they ran an ad for Picard S2 saying "Coming February 2022!".... Forgive me if I doubt that. You know they DO plan these things well in advance, and delays only arise due to technical issues (e.g. a strike or COVID closing down filming, which isn't the case here).

First time doesn't mean the last time.

Plans can change. They're not set in stone.

Plans change if you can’t go out because your car has a flat tire. A major studio doesn’t move an official release date without a very good reason. Having two of their shows air the same week isn’t one of them.

Sure it is. Movie publishers do it all the time.

The fact Discovery's break is as long as the next batch of 10 episodes of Prodigy makes me think they don't want overlap.

Maybe post-production is running behind. Season 4 did start airing only 3 months after filming wrapped.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens but you're right about that stunt they pulled with Discovery off the streaming services without warning people about it.

Amusing to think this is the same franchise that rushed TMP, and various other films, because they do set release dates in stone. Trek history is littered with things that occurred precisely because of ‘the show must go on’ and hard release dates.

The only person who suggested that it wouldn't air in February was a poster on the previous page of this thread, and that was based on speculation about the "no two shows at once rule" (which doesn't exist).... Until I hear something from Paramount, I'm expecting to see JLP, Q, and co. back in action in Feb., because that's what was released:

This era of Trek kicked off with Discovery, which was initially announced as debuting in January of 2017, then pushed back to May 2017, and then delayed again until the actual release of September 24th, 2017.

In this age of television, even with streaming, officially announced dates of shows’ releases are shuffled around all the time.

I guess we'll see in February.
